Your Spine Has Shock Absorbers — Are Yours Still Working?
Between each vertebra in your spine sits a remarkable structure called an intervertebral disc. Think of it like a jelly donut — a tough outer ring (the annulus fibrosus) surrounding a soft, gel-like center (the nucleus pulposus).
These discs do three important jobs:
• Absorb shock from walking, running, and daily movement
• Create space so your spinal nerves can exit freely
• Allow motion — bending, twisting, and turning
Here’s the catch: discs have almost no direct blood supply. They survive through a process called imbibition — essentially drinking in nutrients through movement and hydration. When you move well and stay hydrated, your discs stay nourished. When you sit too long, slouch, or lose spinal mobility, they slowly starve.
Over time, a dehydrated disc loses height and resilience. This is why so many people experience stiffness, nerve pressure, and pain — often long before an MRI ever flags a problem.
The good news? Motion is medicine for your discs. Proper spinal alignment, regular movement, and chiropractic care all support disc health from the inside out.
Your spine carries you through every moment of your life. Let’s make sure it’s supported.

🫀 Let’s Talk Cholesterol —

Most people think cholesterol is simply the enemy. It’s not. Cholesterol is a fat-like substance your body actually needs — your liver produces it to make cells, hormones, and vitamin D. The problem isn’t cholesterol itself. It’s imbalance.

Here’s the real picture:
LDL (“bad”) — carries cholesterol through your bloodstream and can lead to plaque buildup in your arteries, raising your risk of heart attack and stroke.

HDL (“good”) — acts like a cleanup crew, carrying excess LDL back to the liver to be removed from the body.

The goal isn’t to eliminate cholesterol. It’s to tip the balance in your favor.

Here’s what actually moves the needle:
✅ Eat more whole foods — vegetables, whole grains, healthy fats like salmon and olive oil
✅ Move your body — exercise raises HDL and helps control weight
✅ Quit smoking — the benefits to your cholesterol levels begin almost immediately after quitting
✅ Limit alcohol

And here’s the scary part — high cholesterol has no symptoms. Of the over 100 million American adults with elevated levels, 40% don’t even know it.

Your nervous system controls your body’s ability to regulate and heal. When the spine is aligned and the nervous system is functioning well, your whole body — including cardiovascular health — works better. That’s the structural chiropractic difference.

Dementia- one of the worst neuro-degenerative diseases a person can be afflicted with.

It robs families of their joy, changes people behavior and almost always requires professional help.

What if you understood that structural chiropractic (a specialty in chiropractic) could have an influence on your brain health?

The average person thinks “chiropractic and pain”.

The really informed people are learning “chiropractic and function”.

How does this work? Well, the research is very clear. The structure of your cervical spine (neck) which can measured, dictates the blood volume making it to your brain. 🧠 This means structural chiropractic influences brain health.

Dementia starts in midlife and shows up later in life.

If your health isn’t becoming to you, you should be coming to us!

📱 Your Spine on Smartphones

If you look over and your kid is head down in their phone, one of the BEST things you could ever do for their future is to have a professional spinal checkup.

CALL today. 231-348-5980

This X-ray illustration says what words often can’t.

Look at what happens to the human spine when we hunch over a phone. That graceful S-curve — engineered over millions of years to bear weight, absorb shock, and protect your nervous system — collapses into a C.

Here’s the biomechanics of what’s happening:

Your head weighs approximately 10–12 lbs in a neutral position. But for every inch it tilts forward, the effective load on your cervical spine multiplies dramatically. At a 60° forward tilt (a common phone-scrolling angle), that load can feel equivalent to 60 lbs of pressure on your neck and upper back. Do that for 2–4 hours a day, every day, and your body starts to adapt — in the wrong direction.

The real cost isn’t just postural. It’s neurological.

Your spine isn’t just structural. It houses and protects your spinal cord — the communication highway between your brain and every organ, muscle, and system in your body. Chronic forward head posture doesn’t just create neck pain. It can affect breathing capacity, digestion and vagal tone, energy levels and mood, and long-term disc health.

The fix isn’t quitting your phone. It’s intentionality.
✅ Raise your screen to eye level
✅ Take a 2-minute movement break every 30 minutes
✅ Strengthen the deep neck flexors and posterior chain
✅ Get your spine checked regularly

Your nervous system controls everything. Protect the column that protects it.

Share this if you know someone who needs the reminder. 🙏

Most people have no idea how much their spine is running the show.

They think back pain is just… back pain. A little soreness. Something to push through.
But here's what they're missing:

Your spine isn't just a stack of bones. It's the highway your nervous system uses to communicate with every organ, muscle, and cell in your body.

When that highway has interference — through misalignment, tension, or old injuries — the signals get garbled.

And garbled signals don't just cause pain.

They show up as fatigue you can't explain. Brain fog that coffee doesn't fix. Digestion that's off. Sleep that never quite restores you. A mood that's flatter than it should be.

People spend years chasing symptoms — the headaches, the low energy, the tension — without ever looking at the source.

The spine is the source.

When the spine is aligned and the nervous system is free to function the way it was designed, something shifts.

People describe it the same way, over and over: "I didn't realize how bad I felt until I started feeling good."

That's not magic. That's your body doing what it was built to do — without interference.
If you've been managing symptoms instead of addressing the foundation, it might be time for a different conversation.

Your quality of life is connected to your spine health more than most people ever realize.

Drop a comment if this resonates — or tag someone who needs to hear it.

Many people view chiropractic care solely through the lens of back or neck pain, but the neurological reality goes much deeper.

The vagus nerve exits the skull through the jugular foramen, sitting in extremely close proximity to the upper cervical spine (the C1 and C2 vertebrae). Misalignments or mechanical dysfunction in this specific area can create a "noisy" environment for the nervous system.

Structural chiropractic care focuses on:

Reducing Neuro-Interference: By restoring proper motion and alignment to the upper cervical complex, we help remove mechanical irritation near the vagus nerve's path.

Afferent Input: Precise adjustments provide a massive "burst" of sensory information to the brain, specifically the brainstem, which can help "reboot" vagal tone.

Autonomic Balance: Research suggests that specific adjustments can increase heart rate variability (HRV), a primary clinical marker of vagus nerve health and your body’s ability to recover from stress.
In short, a well-aligned spine is a prerequisite for a well-functioning vagus nerve. If you want to move from a state of survival to a state of vitality, the health of this neurological pathway is non-negotiable.
