Community Health would like to share some great tips and reminders during the Heart Health Month.

February is the month of Love thanks to Valentine’s Day, so why not start with yourself?! Love yourself. Take care of yourself. Hug yourself. Respect yourself. Put you first! Like someone once said, We can’t give from an empty cup. So let your cup overfloweth this month about YOU!

Attached are some great reads. Who doesn’t have a little stress in their life? Whether home or work, stress is a real thing. The attached gives facts and ways to overcome it. Which leads great into the second attachment discussing self-care. Each one of these terms (stress and self-care) affect our health and heart. Find out how and what you can do to improve your health this month!

And just in time for Super Sunday, here is a link for a great heart healthy dip to enjoy while watching the big game. 😊

During this time of deep sleep/hibernation our dreams are enhanced and teachings filter through from the Spirit world. We look forward to that next moon as we know that the harvest for the new year is coming beginning with Ziissbaakode that medicine we need to help us during our times of dreaming and remembering those visions that filter through to us. Those old ones remind us also that there are new beginnings all the time. During this time of deep sleep for Mkwa there is always one heavy foggy morning that gives us that sign that for Mkwa, Mukoonz has arrived.

Chi Miigwetch to all and have a good week, month, year.

According to the CDC, February is American Heart Month, a time when all people—especially women—are encouraged to focus on their cardiovascular health.

This Heart Month, the Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (DHDSP) is encouraging women to listen to their hearts and speak up for their health.(https://www.cdc.gov/heartdisease/american_heart_month.htm)

So, Community Health will be sharing some great information all month long! The information may include health and wellness tips, recipes, and physical activities.

Every Friday, especially tomorrow, February 2nd, is wear RED to help spread awareness about heart health for the month of February. So dig through those closets and find some RED to wear on Fridays! 😊

Have a wonderful Thursday and don’t forget… Snowshoe the Ogichidaa Trail from 330pm – 5pm this afternoon.

February is just a couple days away and so is Heart Health month. Why not celebrate with a fun past time outdoor activity? SNOWSHOEING!!!!

Every Thursday in the month of February, come join Community Health from 330pm – 5pm for snowshoeing around the Ogichidaa Trail. You can find us at the firepit pavilion located outside the Government Center. 😊

Community Health will be providing an assortment of snowshoe sizes and poles to help you blaze the trail. This is an outdoor activity, so we need the snow to cooperate and for those participating to dress appropriately, including proper footwear. Fresh air and Nature are a must during these long winter months.

Snowshoeing is a great calorie burning exercise but also comes with some risks. It is physically demanding at times and there’s always the possibility of falling or other injuries to occur while snowshoeing. Please be aware of your physical abilities. If you have never snowshoed before, this is a great opportunity to try it and hike a little.

Hopefully with any luck, more snowshoeing events will continue throughout the wintertime, and we see a little more snowfall. Not a lot, just enough.

The snowshoes are not up for personal rental use at this time.

Any questions, please contact Marlene Gasco at (231)487-1796.
