Psssst. You think your muscles hurt but more than likely, you have fascial restrictions. Quite frankly, fascia holds a lot more than just tension. It holds your feelings; your joys, your sorrows, your guilt, your shame, etc.

Massage can help you significantly. I am trained to release the taut fascia and hopefully, release some of the pain that goes with it; physically, mentally, and emotionally.

I once heard a doctor refer to fascia as nothing more than packing peanuts, a kind of filler material with little significance beyond holding things in place. For a long time, that belief shaped how fascia was taught and understood. It was treated as background material, passive and forgettable. Yet science, when given the chance to look closely, has a way of revealing quiet miracles hiding in plain sight.

As imaging technology improved and researchers began to study fascia in greater detail, an entirely different picture emerged. Through the work of scientists such as Robert Schleip, Carla Stecco, Helene Langevin, and others, fascia revealed itself not as inert wrapping, but as living, responsive tissue deeply integrated with the nervous system. Under the microscope, fascia appeared less like packing material and more like a finely tuned communication network. In some regions, it was found to be even more richly innervated than the muscle itself, filled with sensory nerve endings constantly reporting back to the brain.

Rather than sitting neatly around muscles, fascia behaves more like a three-dimensional spiderweb or a continuous fabric woven throughout the body. Tug on one corner, and the tension is felt elsewhere. Stretch one area and the entire system responds. Fascia blends into muscle fibers, connects across joints, and wraps organs, transmitting force, sensation, and information in every direction. It senses pressure, stretch, and movement the way a musical instrument senses vibration, responding instantly to changes in tone and tension.

This understanding transformed how we view the mind–body connection. Fascia does not simply move the body; it informs it. When emotional stress or trauma occurs, fascia adapts alongside the nervous system. Like a seatbelt locking during sudden braking, it tightens to protect. Like fabric repeatedly folded the same way, it begins to hold familiar creases. These changes are intelligent, protective responses shaped by survival, even when they persist long after the original danger has passed.

Research helped clarify why this happens. Helene Langevin demonstrated that fascia responds to mechanical input and hydration, showing that gentle, sustained touch can influence its structure, much like warm wax can then be reshaped. Carla Stecco’s anatomical mapping revealed the continuity and precision of fascial planes, helping us understand why pain often follows predictable pathways rather than remaining in a single isolated spot. Robert Schleip’s work highlighted fascia’s role as a sensory organ, deeply involved in proprioception and autonomic regulation, explaining why changes in fascia can influence how safe, grounded, or connected a person feels.

Within the Body Artisan approach, this science feels less mechanical and more poetic. Working with fascia is like learning the language of a living landscape. Touch becomes a conversation rather than a command. Pressure is an invitation, not a demand. When safety is present, fascia responds the way frozen ground responds to spring, slowly thawing, rehydrating, and allowing movement where there was once rigidity. Breath deepens, awareness settles, and patterns that felt permanent begin to loosen.

Seeing fascia for what it truly is invites both humility and wonder. The body is not a machine padded with filler. It is a living system of extraordinary intelligence, where structure, sensation, and emotion are woven together like threads in a tapestry. Fascia is one of the primary fibers holding that tapestry intact, carrying both strength and memory.

When we honor this, healing shifts from fixing something broken to supporting something profoundly wise. Given the right conditions, the body does not need to be forced to change. It already knows how to soften, adapt, and return toward balance. Our role is to listen, to support, and to trust the design that has been there all along.

Wisconsin in the winter is such a unique place to practice massage therapy. Aches and pains come out when the weather is cold. We shiver. We shake. We work hard to shovel snow and lay salt. We play hard. We snowmobile and ice fish and hunt. We iceskate and sled. We snowboard and ski. We take longer naps. We hibernate. We’re sedentary longer sometimes. We get tired more easily due to the lack of vitamin D from decreasing sunlight and from our bodies working so hard to keep us warm. We might get sick more easily because of cold temps, dark days and suppressed immune systems. Sadness and depression can become an issue along with anxiety and insomnia and man, the arthritis flares up badly.

There’s literally not a reason to not get a massage this winter. Massage will help. Massage will help a lot of aches and pains. Massage will help a lot of tension issues. Massage will help you relax your nervous system and process information better. Massage will let you sleep easier. Massage help helps poor body mechanics and postural deviations. Massage improves skin tone and aides in the removal of excess lymph from your system.

To book a massage this winter, follow the booking link. I’ll see you soon. ❄️🌨️💨

Super exciting news for ! I have been temporarily closed since 10/22. Almost all of my clients know that I needed to have hip surgery. Since I am on the mend, I am planning my reopening (soon and booking in quickly!)

I will return to the studio at the end of January. I am currently taking appointments for 1/22 and moving forward. My regulars were notified first and given the opportunity to be put on my schedule.

I am now offering open spots to the public. Please remember, if you would like to get on my schedule, book ahead. A lot of popular time frames, such as weekend hours or the rare evening hours, tend to book in first. Weekends and evenings are first come, first serve. I will not be over extending myself in the future to accommodate clients. If you would like those appointment times, book it and book ahead. 💕

Thank you for all the love and support. I have also reenable gift card purchases on the website. I look forward to seeing all of you soon. Be sure to tell your friends and family and be sure to keep them in mind for a massage therapy gift cards during this holiday season. 🎄✨

What are you thankful for this year? I feel like I have a running list but the top 3 include:

1. Modern medicine. When I think about the past 5 years and the surgeries I’ve needed to help my body, I can’t picture what life would be like now if I had gone without. A lot of people have the misconception that LMT’s are solely holistic beings that only practice or believe in Eastern Medicine. That is not true. I genuinely believe that if you mix both Eastern and Western practices, you will get the best of both worlds. My torn labrum would not have healed on its own. My congenital birth defects? There is no way Eastern medicine could’ve helped me. I’m grateful technology has advanced so far that I could be helped.

2. Eastern medicine. You know what’s going to help keep me healthy and stay healthy long after this recovery? Yoga. Stretching. Pranayama. Massage. Acupuncture. TCM. Etc. When I started my yoga journey in 2015, I had no clue how many amazing benefits I was gaining. I just wanted to work out back then with minimal impact to my joints. I didn’t realize it was the thing keeping my joints so lubricated and healthy. It’s probably what saved me at the time.

3. Dogs. Being off of work for 3 months can feel torturous, at least for me. I like going to work. I like helping people. I like supporting my family. But you know what? I’ve had these immense moments of gratitude to go to bed in pain, and to wake up in the morning with large, black labs on both sides of my body. I love being wedged in between their two protective bodies. I’m grateful for the chance to love on them so hard right now and for the way they love and protect me. I’m grateful that they feel so much empathy and that I have never truly been alone this entire time. There has always been a dog watching over me.

Sending an abundance of thanks into the universe this year. Thanks for always having my back. The comeback is about to be so good. See you all in January.
💪❤️

Now is the time to give thanks. Show gratitude for your friends, families, jobs, livelihoods, nourishment, enrichment, and the bountiful blessings we all have.

Gratitude is the name of the game and it will help you in all facets of your life. Practicing gratitude on a daily basis is an extremely healthy habit. Maybe this holiday season, you can open up a journal and scribble down the things that you’re most grateful for. Continue this trend even when it is not a holiday. Remember all that you have to be thankful for and let gratitude light your way.

Happy holiday season. 🍠🥕🥐🍗🥗✨💫🌟

You asked and now you shall receive an update!

Lots of clients and colleagues have reached out to ask how my surgery went, how recovery is going, and how I’m doing in general. Here’s an update:

Surgery went as planned. But I am less than 2 weeks post-op. I am in recovery and I am taking life day by day right now. I haven’t even had my post-op appointment yet. It’s hard to update you all when I’m in the thick of it. Fingers crossed that everything looks good and I’m on a good journey. Fingers also crossed that I keep my boundaries strong and respond to messages when I’m feeling better. If you have been messaging or calling and have not received a response, this is why.

I am feeling stronger each day so that gives me lots of hope. I have post-surgical pain but that’s being managed beautifully. I’m trying my best not to argue with each PT I meet. 😂 It’s an actual challenge when you’re a multifaceted body worker with 17 years of experience.

I want to take healing seriously so I can be at 100% for all of you when I return. I friggin love bodywork so much. It’s my whole heart and soul. I’m REALLY excited to heal so I can fall back in love with this again. The past year and 1/2 was riddled with pain; just working the best I could in constant and horrible pain. The surgeon said the tear in my hip was large and gnarly. The mental toll was unreal. I pride myself on being mindful in my work. This was such a challenging year to do that. I learned so much.

That being said, I’d like to talk about it. I’ve often said the road to healing is arduous and long. It’s just as much of a mental game as it is a physical one. I think I’d like to blog about healing. I’ve done lots of it during my lifetime and haven’t shared my physical or mental/emotional journey often or well. I’ll drop a link soon and I’d love a follow. If you can relate to it, even better.

I truly believe this can only make me a better body worker. Takes an injured person to understand an injured person and boy oh boy, do I have stories of personal injuries and stories of healing. I hope you join me on this next journey as I write and share about it. See you all in January!

I’m only in three days next week as it’s my final week before my surgery / medical leave. Thank you for all the love, prayers, good thoughts, and vibes you’ve all been slinging my way! Thanks for keeping me busy and supporting me.

Most of all, thank you for rolling with the punches. I have lots of loyal clients that have been through A LOT with me, as I navigate my own health journey. Thanks for sticking by my side. I am very lucky to have the support of all of YOU.

My books are full this week. If anything opens up, I will post it to social media.

I will be sure to send out emails and post on social media upon my return. For now, I look forward to social media slowing down. I am very excited to focus on my own healing. I look forward to seeing all of you upon my return!

It’s hilarious to me, because it’s true. Be patient.
Let your LMT warm and manipulate the tissue and THEN we can work deeper. Telling your LMT “you can go deeper if you want” is adorable. We know exactly when the tissue will allow us to go deeper. That being said, you can always request to adjust pressure but I’ll never give you deeper pressure before your tissue can handle it. That’s how injuries happen on your part and mine.
