This is a microscopic view of cervical mucus just before ovulation. At this time, the mucus forms distinct fern-like structures, which change after ovulation.

At ovulation, there is also more cervical mucus and it is slippery and stretchy like an egg white. This change in the quantity and quality of cervical mucus is a more accurate sign of ovulation than an app could ever provide.
