Blue light glasses: do they actually work? 👓

Short answer: Yes—but only if they’re the right kind for your goals.

Blue light is high-energy visible light that comes from the sun, screens, and LED lighting. Not all blue-blocking lenses are the same, and the type matters more than the trend. And we now have guidelines to classify them!

✨Here’s what we recommend:
• HEV 2 lenses that block higher-energy blue light
• Comfortable for all-day wear
• Minimal color distortion
• Ideal for screen use and daily life
Those amber/orange lenses? They’re best reserved for evening use—not all day in order to be an effective aid for your melatonin/sleep cycles.
And remember: reducing digital eye strain isn’t just about glasses. Proper blinking, dry eye management, glare reduction, UV protection, and a well-customized prescription for eye strain reduction all play a role.

Seeing clearly changes everything—especially for kids 🥹

Last Friday, we had the honor of partnering with , a local nonprofit dedicated to providing eye exams and glasses for school-age children. Together with Widen Elementary, we helped dispense glasses to students following their Vision Field Trip—ensuring each pair fit just right.

This work is made possible through you.

⭐️When our patients purchase two pairs of glasses or glasses and contacts, they choose a pair that we donate directly to Half Helen—helping another child see clearly in the classroom and beyond ⭐️

A special thank you to our community and to Dr. Andrea Kells for joining us on-site to help with fittings and care.

Half Helen is continuing this important mission but is currently working to close a critical funding gap. If you’re able, consider donating and helping give the gift of sight—because clear vision opens doors far beyond the classroom.

Our owner, Dr. Kells, has dreamed of opening an independent practice since high school. From choosing where she went to school (and swimming at the University of Houston), to selecting jobs with doctors she admired to build her clinic skills, there was an underlying goal to continue making strides to this dream.

After spending a year working through delayed permitting and construction, the unthinkable happened the week of opening, and a pipe broke in the ceiling. It rained over the brand new equipment and was so extensive water was coming out the front and back door.

Although the moment was devastating, it wasn’t going to stop Santé and the love we’ve received and amazing patients we’ve cared for already has made our 🥂 grand opening that much sweeter.
