We are on one of our star residents, Dee!
Dee has enjoyed 62 years of a happy marriage. She loves spending time with her family and is the proud mother of three children, grandmother of four grandchildren, and great-grandmother of six.
Dee lived a glamorous and accomplished life in the beauty industry as the nationally and internationally known co-owner of Salon Norman Dee in Northeast Philadelphia. She grew the business from six operators to 90 before selling it. Her specialty was hair color, and she was fortunate to be mentored by the head chemist at Clairol and Procter & Gamble. Clairol introduced her to the corporate world of beauty, where she became a member of Clairol’s Presidential Hair Colorist Council.
Dee’s career took her around the world. She taught internationally in London, Berlin, Italy, France, and at multiple Intercoiffure events. She received an international award in Paris for her excellence in mentoring, teaching, and creativity. She was also named Best of Philly three times and authored two professional manuals.
She was a long-standing member of the international organization Intercoiffure America/Canada, serving on the board for 25 years and as secretary for four years. Dee was featured in many professional and commercial magazines and appeared on both local and national radio and television. She has won multiple awards for teaching, mentoring, and creativity.
When Norman had a stroke and lost some of his people skills, she made the decision to move to The Watermark Retirement Community—one of the best decisions she ever made. She chose The Watermark for its convenient location and its many amenities, which offered comfort, support, and a vibrant lifestyle.
Nearly 13 years later, Dee has remained deeply involved in the community. She served as Vice President of the Resident Council for four years, President for four years, Welcoming Committee Chair for 11 years, and co-chair of both the Food Committee and the Thrift Store.
Her hobbies include reading, dancing, doing crossword puzzles, and enjoying time with friends. Above all her achievements, Dee shares that her proudest gifts in life have been her “brains and hands”—the talents that allowed her to create, teach, and inspire throughout her remarkable career.
Thank you, Dee, we appreciate you! We’re proud to have Dee as part of the . Her positive attitude and joy make every day brighter here.
