Kasey Jarvis, LMFT

Kasey Jarvis, LMFT Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist working with individuals and couples to help them get their healthiest, most fulfilling relationships.

I will continue to offer virtual therapy as a convenient service to all residents of PA. Both myself and clients have found online therapy to be hugely convenient, enabling them to fit therapy more easily into their schedules due to not having to factor in commute time. There is also more scheduling flexibility on my part without being restricted to available hours at the physical office. In-office visits are limited at the King of Prussia location.

New episode out! Wondering why you keep seeing Narcissistic traits everywhere? We give our take on how society on a macro level could affect relationships on a micro level. Politics, striving to "keep up with the Joneses" - it's all on the table for discussion.

Protective parts can feel like "is" when they're actually only a part of us. They show up in interactions with our partners even when we're not aware.

Reactivity and intensely painful feelings are a cue. Processing with a therapist can help you determine the difference, heal, and speak with the "self" instead of with self protection.

Think about it: this affects all levels of wellbeing.

Self compassion helps emotions regulate, decreasing stress hormones and increasing executive functioning.

Feeling like you deserve to feel good increases self care.

Permitting yourself to be more authentic positively impacts interpersonal relationships on every level.

When people wonder why they keep being scapegoated, I remind them that the scapegoat serves as a container for the pain and anxiety that exists elsewhere in the family.

Without having his container, the other members of the family system would become uncomfortable/anxious.

Having somewhere to dump the unpleasant stuff helps to keep things "normal".

PS this isn't consciously or maliciously done. It's part of humans being the self-protective beings that they are, harmful as the protective behavior might be.

As the scapegoat, you probably felt blamed and like you could do nothing right regardless of the faults of other family members.

Your need to be understood and heard likely went unmet, possibly creating a host of symptoms, including anger.

If this feels like you, I highly recommend processing with a therapist.

For those who need to hear it.

I keep finding the ways just within myself, and I'm a therapist!

Don't underestimate the nuances in your communication that are protective.

For everyone gearing up to start that diet or whatever perfect regimen for "self care" or "health".....

Today you may execute it perfectly. Another day you may not.

On BOTH days, you are equally as loveable and worthy.

Warning to the perfectionists and people pleasers:

New Year's Resolutions usually only feed into the need to feel perfect or good enough.

They set us up to feel like a failure when we haven't met a goal within arbitrary time constraints.

Being more patient and compassionate with yourself might be a nice resolution to make, though......
