PSA: EARLY IDENTIFICATION AND INTERVENTION ARE KEY 🔑👶🏻🌟
Why early intervention❓
⭐️ The neural circuits in the developing brain are the most flexible and capable of change during the first three years of life. Over time, it becomes increasingly difficult to make significant changes in growth and development (Shonkoff et al., 2009).
⭐️ Based on these basic principles of neuroscience, intervention is likely to be more effective when provided earlier in life (Shonkoff et al., 2009). Early diagnosis and treatment for developmental delays reduces the risk of ongoing difficulties and increases a child’s chances of improvement and long-term success!
⭐️ High quality early intervention services have been shown to positively impact outcomes across developmental domains, including health, language & communication, cognitive development, and social-emotional development (Goode et al., 2011).
⭐️ The “wait-and-see” approach is outdated. Late talkers do not necessarily “catch up” to their same-age peers and can experience deficits in later developing language and literacy skills, executive functioning skills, emotional and behavioral regulation, social skills, and speech processing skills (Capone Singleton, 2018; Hawa & Spanoudis, 2014). Current research supports early identification and intervention!!
