If your experiencing morning sickness this is a good article to read.

There a hormorne called GDF15 that has been linked to extreme morning sickness and hyperemesis gravidarum which is a condition during pregnancy that leads to excessive nausea, weight loss, and dehydration in pregnancy. So the cool thing that is mention is that "GDF15 might have evolved to protect people from poisoning themselves and to shield a developing fetus from toxic substances" so basically your baby may be producing this hormone to control your dietary health during pregnancy, The not so cool thing is learning that this can seriously impact your ability to be healthy in your pregnancy.

If your ever going through any kind of morning sickness it is always wise to keep a food journal and speak with a nutritionist that can help you navigate the difficult nausea that may be occuring. Also if you are diagnosis with hyperemesis gravidarum search the pregnancy message board do your research to see what worked for other.

A protein released by fetal cells in the placenta influences the risk of experiencing severe nausea and vomiting during pregnancy.

Often, when Bilikisu Abdulazeez would come for prenatal appointments this past spring and summer at the Helen O. Dickens Center for Women’s Health at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP), she’d also make a stop at HUP Harvest, the hospital’s food relief program a short distance...

Two of my best friend: The birth ball and the peanut ball
Supporting so many birthing mothers in hospital births means that I’m very often using the peanut ball to help create space in the pelvic for the baby to descend. I’m often introducing the birth ball in prenatal visits to assist over time in preparing the body to go into labor naturally.

Which one is your favorite? Te birth ball or the peanut ball? Let’s talk about how they can help in your pregnancy and labor. Link in bio to chat!

A Monday Reminder:
The warmth from the fuzzy lovable things you need to hear during your pregnancy and postpartum are already within you. Sometimes we need reminders that our minds don’t have to work against us, that our minds can be our shelter full of positive reinforcements 🫶🏾.

They come even when we're expecting them much later. We take so much time to track them so that we know the very day it will being and end, for our bodies to steadily remind us that its in control of when our periods will make a showing. I love the idea of making rituals for your period especially when trying to conceive. What would your ritual look like for an unwanted period.

Pulling up with one of my favorite affirmations to say during labor. Have you thought about using affirmations in your labor. If so what would they sound like🗣? Who do you need to hear them from the most? Yourself, from your partner, mother, doctor or “your doula🫶🏿”?

Black owned birthing centers are a joy to see as we continue to push for safer births for black and brown people. Birthing centers provide another option for low intervention birth, as well as higher possibility for natural unmedicated birth verses going to a hospital. The option to birth in a facility that is not only focused on honoring the physiological approach to birth through midwives care but also owned by a black woman creates representation for safety for black community and influence for black women to purse opening birth centers in their communities. This is one way forsure to build and progress toward better black maternal outcomes.

It could all be so simple to increase your milk supplies. But in reality we rather make it hard on ourselves indulging our supplies woes with lactation supplements, cookies and tonics before trying some very easy solution.

Sticking to a feeding/pumping schedule can do wonders in helping your supplies. Admittedly this is a struggle for most. One thing you can do it to start keeping track of how long your body takes to respond to each session you miss does it automatically decrease or do you recover fast. And use this information to rework your schedule.

Breastfeeding and increasing supplies can be complicated and sometime the easy solutions still are hard when you factor in time, mental health, support, and environment. Reaching out to receive lactation support from CLC or IBCLS can help you get back on track to producing the milk you need for your little one.
