Two of our fellows, Ean Hudak and Amanda McMillen, were able to create and share a presentation about their work being apart of the Wound Care Team and working in Kensington for Day of Dialogue. They brought great insight and depth to a nuanced conversation about addiction and homelessness in Kensington. We are incredibly grateful to have them on the team, and spreading the word about their work!

A huge thank you to the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), formerly Be The Match, for their incredible work on campus yesterday! The team swabbed 75 students in Campion which set a new record for us. Their efforts help connect patients battling life-threatening blood cancers and diseases with life-saving marrow and stem cell donors. Special thank you to Maggie Pulliam and her amazing team—Lauren Zile, John Khoury, Rachel Vemula, Spencer Mathers, and Sebastian Bigas-Seda—for making such an impact. You truly made a difference in people’s lives.

Over the past three days, our ICB team represented Saint Joseph’s University at the American Heart Association’s National Conference in New Orleans! They presented two posters comparing cardiovascular risk factors and sex-related disparities among Asian, African, and Hispanic populations served by our Health Promoters Clinics. This research is supported by Saint Joseph’s University and an Independence Blue Cross (IBX) grant. It reflects our commitment to advancing health equity through Jesuit values and scientific discovery. Congratulations to Amanda, Fredy, Andren, Enoch, Dr. Patel, and Dr. Kim on this outstanding achievement!

The Institute of Clinical Bioethics is partnering with the non-profit National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) to host a Swab to Save event. The mission of the NMDP is to connect blood cancer patients in need of life-saving transplants with potential donors. To join the donor registry, there will be a tabling event in front of Campion Dining Hall on Friday, November 7th, from 12–3 PM. With a simple cotton swab of your cheek, the NMDP is able to connect you to a patient whose life you may be able to save.

The donation process is very similar to that of a blood drive- but please note that no blood is taken at this event; it is only for joining the registry. If you were to match with a patient in need, the NMDP covers all travel costs and allows you to bring a guest- some people even make trips out of it!

A huge thank you to Fredy and Ean for running today’s Wound Care Clinic — possibly our busiest day yet. We cared for 7 patients, including two emergency cases where 911 had to be called.
