We know your timeliness have been flooded, and we encouraged you to pause, breathe, cry, release. Your nervous system is challenged, your heart is hurt and your mind maybe filled with anger. All of your emotions are valid. We hold space for you here π as we also honor this phenomenal woman.
I saw this come cross my timeline a few days ago and I was literally stopped in my tracks. This was right before wanting to take a social media break, yet my heart did instead.
There is no way in a country, with so much access, so many resources, so many opportunities to save is this even possible.
Our lives as Black women/moms/birthing people are not expendable. This amazing, brilliant, woman had her life taken. And this is beyond unacceptable.
So as we see the dismantling of DEI, the resistance and resilience of organizations like ours, dedicated to helping improve outcomes in Black Maternal Health, despite funding cuts and scarcity mindsets. Yet here we are still championing as we to strive to survive. There absolutely is a better way and a need for change, now more than ever.
She came into this space to be an advocate and bring change. Talented, educated and beyond, yet she lays an unfortunate sacrifice of a system dedicated to devastation toward Black families...it will never make sense. But we will keep fighting to make RIGHT of it.
Deepest condolences to her family and the community she served so exceptionally πππΏ
