On Thursday, April 16, 2026 our Prosthetics, Rehabilitation and Medicine and Recreation Therapy services combined to execute our Annual First Swing Golf Clinic for our Veterans who have limb loss(es). This is the 16th year that we have held this spring season event where we teach (or refresh) our amputee Veterans how to hold/grip a golf club and swing and hit a golf ball (believe me it’s no easy feat)!
The weather was picture perfect as over 20 Veterans, both male and female, came out to be instructed by golf pros who volunteer their time each year and our staff, who pour their all into making the event memorable year after year for our Veterans. There were prizes of VA merchandise for those who were able to chip, putt and hit the golf ball far across field (some of our Veterans were ‘clear ringers’ 😂 or repeat attendees) which made the event a little competitive too this year, but all had a great time that attended! We had excellent news coverage too from FOX, CBS3 and NBC10. Kudos to Tim Llewellyn and all of our teammates for another fabulous event that our Veterans could not stop raving about (check out our LIVE shot videos for their heartwarming testimonials crediting our Philadelphia VA and staff by name)! Next up is our ‘Next Swing Golf Clinic’ in the fall where our Veterans put the skills they learned to the test accompanied by Golf Pros and staff playing 9-holes of golf. Kudos to all of the vendors and sponsors who attended too. One company brought out a specially designed golf cart that our double amputee and paralyzed Veterans could use that safely and securely harnessed them in the cart so that when they swung or extended their torsos they didn’t fall forward and also enabled them to lower or raise the seat and turn the chair to better position them to hit the ball.
The event ended, much to the Veterans disappointment, with a boxed lunch.
Continue to follow us on Facebook as the next event is May 21st which we will be hosting our Annual Adaptive Sports Clinic in West Deptford New Jersey!
