We at SAIA are excited to share an exciting new publication regarding the factors that impact sexual well-being and intimacy in IBD patients, co-authored by our very own Dr. Neilanjan Nandi, MD along with many esteemed GI clinicians! ππ½ππ½

This important study underscores how disease activity can directly impact patient and well-being. The co-authors discuss assessment tools to identify sexual dysfunction and risk factors for developing sexual dysfunction in addition to reviewing sexual and gender minority (SGM) concerns. π₯π₯
The rate of sexual dysfunction in IBD patients ranges between 40-60% in females and 40-50% in males. Comorbidities often include prior surgeries, and , active disease, and use of certain medications, such as corticosteroids. β¨β¨
Additionally, psychological factors may contribute to sexual dysfunction, such as issues related to external surgical scars, , and concerns. ππ
