We are in search of Jozef Raut AKA Jozef Rauth of Lanki Mayle, Bobrka, Lwow. This is his story... Jozef was born on October 10, 1915 in Lanki Mayle, Bobrka, Lwow (now Lanky Male, Bibrka, Lviv, Ukraine). He was the son of Adam Rauth & Marianna Sofinska who resided in house #33 in Lanki Mayle. Adam Rauth died in 1925 and his wife Marianna died a few years later. Afterwards Jozef went to live with his older sister named Katica (Katarzyna) Tonkovic who was now married and living in Zagreb, Yugoslavia. While living in Zagreb Jozef finished his schooling and earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. Sometime after he returned to Lanki Mayle. We found a marriage record to Zofia Ciskiewicz recorded April 10, 1939 in Bobrka. They had a son together named Zenon Piotr Rauth born December 22, 1940 while residing at ul. Sobienskiego 31, Bobrka, Lwow. Zenon passed away on March 16, 1940. His wife Zofia passed away 2 years later on July 7, 1942 and was buried in Kulparkow. Jozef is listed as "leaving' on Zofia's death record. Jozef was arrested by the German Army in 1939 and later escaped the forced labor camp. He went back to Yugoslavia and joined the Yugoslavian Army. Later he was shot in the upper right thigh and captured again by the German Army and placed as a POW in a forced labor camp in Germany. Upon liberation in May of 1945 he married Maria Krzmenska. They had two sons while staying in the Displaced Persons camp in Germany. Later they immigrated to Sydney, Australia and had a daughter in April 1950. Jozef suffered from PTSD and struggled while adjusting to civilian life after the war. He did not enjoy living in Australia and expressed to immigration authorities that he desired to return to Zagreb, Croatia. Sometime in 1955, Jozef left for work and never returned. Records were found that show he was in Brisbane shortly after he left and then the trail ends in Australia. Since his disappearance he has never attempted contact with his wife or children. For a short while he was listed as a missing person with the Australian authorities. His family firmly believes he went back to Zagreb to reconnect with his sister Katica and her family. However because of his connections there is a possibility that he returned to Ukraine or Poland. We ask for your assistance to share our post with the hope that someone recognizes him. Please help bring the family closure. Thank you all so very much ❤️
