Penn Medicine in the News: Gene therapy is providing hope for recovering vision in people who have conditions such as leber congenital amaurosis 5, which causes a deterioration in vision related to a gene mutation. For that condition, Tomas Aleman, MD, the Irene Heinz-Given and John LaPorte Research Professor in Ophthalmology, explained the success of a new injection that puts a functioning copy of the mutated gene into affected people’s retinas, which has led to improvements in vision in daytime lighting conditions. Please watch Dr. Aleman’s feature on Good Morning America at the provided QR code or by clicking here: https://www.goodmorningamerica.com/video/127055565.
