Recall of Byheart formula due to botulism.
If your baby consumed recalled formula for botulism, immediately stop use, throw it away, and thoroughly clean surfaces that came into contact with the product. Monitor your baby for symptoms like constipation, a weak cry, poor feeding, and muscle weakness; if they develop any symptoms, seek immediate medical attention, especially if they have difficulty breathing or abnormal movements. It is a medical emergency and needs to be treated promptly by a healthcare professional.
Immediate actions
Stop using the product: Do not use the recalled formula. Throw it away or return it to the store where you bought it.
Clean thoroughly: Wash any items, bottles, and surfaces that may have touched the formula with hot, soapy water.
Monitor for symptoms
Watch for the following symptoms, which may appear between 3 and 30 days after exposure:
Constipation (often the first sign)
Weak cry
Poor feeding, difficulty swallowing, and excessive drooling
Lethargy or irritability
Weak muscles, leading to floppiness (weakness in arms, legs, neck)
Drooping eyelids
Breathing difficulties
When to seek medical help
Contact your pediatrician immediately if your baby is showing any of the symptoms mentioned above.
Go to the emergency room immediately if your baby has difficulty breathing or abnormal movements.
Early treatment with an antitoxin can prevent the toxin from causing further damage, so prompt medical care is crucial.
