On 100 beautiful acres in Northeast Philadelphia stands Friends Hospital, one of America’s oldest hospitals and the first private non-profit institution in the country, founded exclusively to help persons with mental illness. When people come onto the grounds of Friends Hospital, we want them to feel that they have left the city and entered a quiet refuge where the process of healing the mind has taken place for centuries. Physicians are on the medical staff of Friends Hospital, but, with limited exceptions, are independent practitioners who are not employees or agents of Friends Hospital. The facility shall not be liable for actions or treatments provided by physicians. We are unable to provide medical advice through social media. We are grateful to Feast of Justice for the opportunity to table and engage with the community. Friends Hospital was honored to highlight our Crisis Response Center, share information about our services and discuss the many ways we support individuals experiencing mental health challenges.

Events like this play a vital role in reducing the stigma surrounding mental illness, increasing awareness and connecting people with the care and resources they deserve. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table, asked questions and helped make this event meaningful.

Today, we celebrate and honor Dr. John Leichner as he retires after many years of dedicated service to Friends Hospital. Dr. Leichner has been a trusted physician, mentor and leader, providing exceptional medical care and offering thoughtful guidance to our Advanced Practice Providers. His steady presence, clinical expertise and unwavering commitment to excellence have left a meaningful and lasting impact on our patients, our APPs and our entire medical community.

We are deeply grateful for his years of service and the legacy he leaves behind at Friends Hospital. We wish Dr. Leichner every joy and success in his well deserved retirement and in all the chapters still ahead. Thank you, Dr. Leichner, you will always be part of the Friends family!

We kicked off the holiday season at Friends yesterday with our Turkey, Ham and Veggie Lasagna Day! Staff enjoyed a hearty breakfast and a cozy bonfire with a BBQ prepared by our amazing Plant Operations team.
