Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Proud to be a member and representative of the vibrant LGBTQ+ community that makes our world so much more colorful. ❤️

Reminder: Pride is not just about rainbow logos and parades. Pride is about acceptance, representation among leadership and in the workplace, equal rights, accelerating innovation throguh diverse perspectives, and protecting the safety and well-being of those around us and future generations. 🙏

Seriously, and ***rsurgeon are changing the world. If you aren’t familiar with their work, you should check them out. 🤓

What we have in common is navigating thru uncharted territory in medicine, but what has me awestruck is how they are able to innovate both in education and in surgical technique in two of the most heavily politicized areas in medicine. 🙌

Hanging out with them (since Blair was in town for an important lecture at Penn) was just what I needed in advance of Pride Month. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

What resonated the most was our chat on how all 3 of us are passionate about not gatekeeping our learnings so healthcare and medicine can be a better place for patients and for professionals in the future. 🙏

So honored to call you both friends. I have so much respect for everything you do and stand for. ❤️

It’s been a big year for Asian American visibility. Growing up I dreamt of years like this where Everything Everywhere All At Once sweeps at the Oscars, Blackpink, Twice, and BTS sell out stadiums around the world, and Naatu Naatu taking the internet by storm.

But the work isn’t done. Reality is that there is still a lot of hate and violence out there targeted toward Asian Americans.

Beyond entertainment there are so many in other industries also representing, and shoutout to all the leaders and orgs working on this and more. (Tagging some of my inspo — too many to name, including many no longer with us who paved the way)

I can only hope to play my part and aspire to represent like all the greats from my own corner of the world. 🙏 Coming back from Asia today I’m reminded of all the incredible things about our culture there still is to share.

Happy Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. 🫶

Prioritize the next generation. 🤓

As someone with a big job but still junior in their career, I feel privileged to be in a position to foster innovation and creativity. Many who typically sit in my role are often far removed from trainees and might not look back as often.

It doesn’t matter if you disagree with a future generation’s values or ideals. The future world is theirs to manage, and ours to support. I’ve always felt that trainees in medicine are not only less jaded and teeming with innovative ideas and creative resolve, but they’re also quite literally the future of healthcare.

I have always told myself I want to prioritize activities related to fellows, residents, students, and even pre-meds. Right now, I’ve been interviewing interventional GI fellowship applicants. Yesterday I spoke to first year med students interested in tech. Earlier this year I spoke to pre-meds at Duke and med students at other schools. In my CMO role, I want to prioritize fellows’ training and I’ve committed to sharing my insights as much as possible.

Besides, you all keep me young at heart. 🥹

Happy National Doctors Day to all my doctor colleagues! 🩺

Couldn’t have thought of a better way to spend it than speaking to med students at NYMC about unconventional careers in medicine, and another talk later with UT San Antonio GI fellows 💙

Always grateful for all the opportunities to share my experience with the future of medicine 😊

🆕 Announcing the next chapter of AI in medicine 💡

One day maybe you’ll appreciate how big of a step this is… 🥹 Imagine an Apple TV-like device where you can toggle different AI apps for different uses. Today, my colleagues and I announce a major step toward that vision. 🤩

Today, Medtronic not only announced a partnership between Cosmo Intelligent Medical Devices and AI giant NVIDIA to integrate powerful Nvidia technology into medical devices, starting with our own Medtronic Gastrointestinal GI Genius (currently used in AI-assisted colon polyp detection during screening colonoscopy), but that’s not all! 👀

We ALSO announced GI Genius AI ACCESS, the next phase of GI Genius which will transform the device into a platform to host multiple real-time AI apps.📱 Through a new innovation center, third party developers are now invited build and test their AI through in a virtual sandbox.👩‍💻 As new AI apps are developed and added, clinicians may have expanded access to different AI tools for different purposes, potentially impacting patient care far beyond what is currently offered. 🙌

📸: Today I was honored to have presented at the major AI developer conference, , alongside leaders from Cosmo Intelligent Medical Devices to invite developers to participate and discuss how AI is already impacting patient care today and invite developers everywhere to use these new tools to innovate in healthcare. 🙏 By advancing AI innovation with these new tools, we will hopefully continue to improve patient outcomes soon. 💙

Back from the White House Cancer Moonshot Forum 💙🏛️

If change is ever going to happen, the people gathered in the room yesterday are THE PEOPLE to execute on developing solutions for colorectal cancer. I left the White House feeling incredibly inspired after being in the room with patients ✅, survivors ✅, caregivers ✅, policymakers (WH, CDC) ✅, clinicians and top academic researchers ✅, societies ✅, industry CEOs ✅, retail (CVS, Walgreens, Walmart) ✅, tech leaders (health leaders at Epic, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle) ✅

Especially moved after hearing share her powerful personal story about her late husband, Chadwick Boseman, and the urgency to focus on early-onset colorectal cancer. Also inspired to hear from colleagues like talk about health inequities in this space.

Grateful to and Medtronic for opportunity to reconnect with old friends and meet with new ones. Let’s get to work.💙💪

Love creating opportunities I wish I had when I was a doctor in training! 🥹

My team created a behind-the-scenes experience for GI fellows to gain greater exposure to the medical device/med tech world at the Medtronic GI HQ in Silicon Valley with a tour of our R&D lab where our engineers shared how new technologies are developed and presentations from our business development team to give perspective on how physician inventors partner with industry to create new innovation to benefit patients! 💙 For any GI fellows or future GIs, it’s a really cool experience!

Then I came to the AGA Tech Summit in SF and sat on a panel of experts on artificial intelligence in GI to discuss where the field is headed and challenges that we face in being new tech to life. 🤓

Last slide is summary 💙

I’m often asked on here what my thoughts are about the various screening tests. There’s a reason why colonoscopy remains the gold standard - the ability to locate and remove pre-cancerous polyps EARLY (other are only good at detecting things late when it’s already turned into cancer)

Hope this helps someone 💙

Blue for March 💙

Let this sink in: In 2023, an estimated 153,020 people will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in the U.S., and 52,550 people will die from the disease. (new report released today) ‼️

Fact is, many of these cases are likely preventable…

Tell your loved ones that current recommendations are that EVERYONE should
