CAMA: Community Acupuncture of Mt Airy

CAMA: Community Acupuncture of Mt Airy We are committed to providing affordable healthcare ($30-$45 you choose!) including: acupuncture, fertility, herbs, massage and nutrition education.

All of us at Community Acupuncture of Mt. Airy (take a virtual tour of CAMA) are excited to welcome you to become part of our healing center! Elise Rivers and her growing staff of acupuncturists, herbologists, fertility specialists and healers were the first to bring this style of cost-efficient ($30-$45) acupuncture to Philadelphia (see newspaper clipping) when we were a walk-in clinic way back in January 2005. Our Mission: We are committed to providing affordable healthcare that eliminates both the broken health care system's red tape and the insurance companies' inappropriate authority over your care. We want you to have the choice of an affordable, compassionate, effective, preventative, acute and chronic ailment care alternative; including: acupuncture, herbs and self-care education. We are an alternative for those who are insured, underinsured or not insured.

She's at it again! She's taken her sold-out lecture about the history of our amazing East Mt Airy neighborhood and turned it into multiple sold-out walking tours. We're adding more dates as ticket sales come in.

This Fall will be the first walking tour of historic Sedgwick Farms. She has created this COVID-safe, socially distanced activity to provide an even more powerful in-person experience of the beauty of East Mt Airy. You'll learn about its fascinating history, and experience a deeper understanding of our shared architectural heritage. Learn how the Tourison family's vision is still affecting our lives today.

Tickets for 9/30 11am walk available at: https://aceweb.mtairylearningtree.org/CourseStatus.awp?&course=20FTW01C

Based on Pennsylvania and Philadelphia covid-19 recommendations, we are opening this week on a limited basis for people in need of care. Call Elise at 215-266-5757 to make an appointment.

We have put in place many changes to make your visit as safe as possible. Masks will be required to enter the space (supplied if needed). Your temperature and oxygen levels will be measured so if you are not feeling well we ask that you cancel your appointment.

We will be running on a skeleton staff so you may not get the acupuncturist you are used to. We will be sending out an announcement with more details in the coming week.

ATTENTION EVERYONE who is interested in the history and landscape that form Mt. Airy: Have we got a series for YOU. We're happy to announce this four-part series coming to Lovett Memorial Library - Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia. Every other Wednesday from January 15th through February 26th, join us to learn about Mt. Airy's built environment, natural landscape, and how we're doing to protect and preserve both.

• Jan 15: Elise Rivers from CAMA: Community Acupuncture of Mt Airy will present her pictorial history of Sedgwick Farms, the turn-of-the-20th century development by Ashton Tourison Sr. that shaped so much of East Mt. Airy.

• Jan 29: Retired environmental engineer and East Mt. Airy Neighbors (EMAN) board member Kelly O'Day will examine what ever happened to the historic Wingohocking Creek in East Mt. Airy and Germantown - and how burying it in a sewer in the 1800s presents challenges today.

• Feb 12: Preservationist extraordinaire Oscar Beisert will share his expertise as a member of the Mayor's Historic Preservation Task Force and author of dozens of designations on the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places. He'll give a broad overview of Philly's preservation performance and hone in on NW Philly in particular.

• Feb 26: Libbie Hawes, Preservation Director at Cliveden and a member of the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia's Advocacy Committee, will lead this workshop on nominating a building, structure, site, or object to the local Register.
