The story goes that Pheidippides, a messenger, ran nearly 26 miles from the city of Marathon to Athens to deliver news of a victorious battle—shouting “Victory!” before collapsing from exhaustion.
This incredible feat of endurance inspired the modern marathon, now celebrated by runners around the world. Today’s athletes may have better shoes and hydration, but the same spirit of determination lives on with every stride.
