January is National Stalking Awareness Month, a time dedicated to increasing public understanding of stalking and its impact.
The awareness color for stalking is yellow. Yellow represents visibility, caution, and alertness, a reminder to shine a light on stalking behaviors that are often minimized or misunderstood. The color became widely recognized through national “Shine a Light on Stalking” awareness efforts to encourage education, early recognition, and prevention.
Stalking is a pattern of unwanted behaviors used to monitor, control, or intimidate someone. It can happen in-person or digitally and often escalates over time.
What you can do:
• Learn the signs of stalking and coercive control
• Take concerns seriously: yours or someone else’s
• Respect boundaries and model consent
• Share resources and check in on people you trust
• Support survivor-centered organizations doing this work
Awareness saves lives. Support creates options.
