HIV AIDS Research Updates from Montaner Lab

HIV AIDS Research Updates from Montaner Lab HIV Cure Research Updates from the Montaner Lab at The Wistar Institute HIV Cure & Viral Diseases Center

The Montaner laboratory posts general HIV research advances, news and may comment on what we consider it means. We will also post updates on work at the Wistar Institute and with worldwide collaborators investigating HIV cure strategies and novel approaches to augment immune function. The Montaner HIV Immunopathogenesis laboratory combines virological and immune-based research on patient-derived m

aterial and laboratory models of virus infection. The work is focuses on 1) regulation of innate immunity, 2) identifying new mechanisms of immunodeficiency and discovering new approaches to reverse them, 3) exploring new therapy management practices, and 4) understanding the relationship between immune antiviral responses and control/eradication of HIV-1 infection.

Wistar’s Dr. Luis Montaner, HIV Cure and Viral Diseases director, kicked off the Center’s annual collaborative retreat welcoming scientists, from postdoctoral fellows to principal investigators, for a day sharing research updates from across lab disciplines.

Since officially opening its doors last June, the Center has expanded with new P*s and more than 20 new members, many of whom are giving presentations of their work to spark new collaborations.

March 20 is National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. This year’s NNHAAD theme "From Ceremony to Action: Renewal, Respect, and Collective Strength" highlights the connection between cultural traditions and community-driven action in addressing HIV in Native Communities. The imagery in the poster reflects a transition from night into the light of a new day, symbolizing hope, healing, and renewal. The community members paddling together across flowing water represent the collective effort required to strengthen HIV prevention, treatment, and care. Together, these elements represent the journey from ceremony to action and our collective strength as Indigenous communities to honor cultural teachings and support one another in ending HIV.
