The Center for Growth

The Center for Growth Psychological Counseling • Therapy • Support Groups We believe that each individual is unique and has the potential to achieve a fulfilling and rewarding life.

There is no one best way of living; however, there are techniques and attitudes each of us can adopt to experience more pleasure and achieve an increased level of satisfaction. We define success not by how one completes a particular task, but rather by how one keeps going after a set-back. It is often only through failure that the real learning begins. In the process of life mistakes are inevitable. We believe that people who are motivated can learn and grow from their mistakes. It is our belief that there is no right way to go through life – only your way. Trained therapists at the Center for Growth, Inc., are available to work with clients at all stages of life on a wide range of issues to help them achieve greater fulfillment and derive more satisfaction from life.

Part 2:
Most ADHD-related relationship struggles aren’t about motivation or effort — they’re about nervous systems, executive functioning, and emotional sensitivity. Naming the pattern is often the first step to changing it.

PART 1:
ADHD doesn’t disappear in relationships — it shapes how people communicate, regulate emotions, and show up for daily life. When ADHD is misunderstood, couples often get stuck in cycles of frustration and shame. When it’s understood, space opens up for empathy, teamwork, and growth.

When our emotions are high and we're angry with a partner, it's easy to get lost in the heat of the argument. As you give voice to your anger, and express your needs, try to remember you're talking to someone you love. As your partner is expressing their needs and you feel yourself growing defensive, again, try to remember you're talking to someone you love. If your goal to deepen the bond with your partner, keep love at the center.

When conflict hits, it’s easy to assume something is wrong with you — that you’re “bad at communication” or too emotional. But most of the time, what’s happening has far more to do with your nervous system than your intentions.

When connection feels threatened, the brain shifts into survival mode. The part of you responsible for empathy, clarity, and problem-solving goes offline, while the part designed to protect you takes over. That’s why arguments escalate so quickly, words come out harsher than you meant, or you feel the urge to shut down or escape.

Understanding the neurobiology of conflict doesn’t excuse hurtful behavior — but it does create compassion. And compassion is often the first step toward change. Before working on what to say, it helps to understand what’s happening inside you when emotions run high.

Regulation comes before resolution. When your nervous system feels safer, connection becomes possible again.

If conflict feels overwhelming or repetitive in your relationships, therapy can help you slow things down, build awareness, and learn how to communicate with more intention — even when it’s hard.

To schedule and appointment, call our intake line at 215-922-LOVE (5683) x 100 or self schedule online at https://thecenterforgrowth.com/therapy/schedule-an-appointment.
