It brings me joy to help therapists with their journey into private practice ownership. Reading these testimonials from past Private Practice 101 students reminds me of why I started teaching this seminar 8 years ago.

I went into full-time private practice in 2012. That was my main source of income, which was scary sometimes. There was a lot that I didn’t know and a few times that I lost money. If I had been better prepared and educated, that wouldn’t have happened.

If you’re interested in building a successful private practice and avoiding the mistakes that I made when starting out, click the 🔗 to register for my upcoming seminar on January 22nd. http://ow.ly/rkp050Hy4ea

One of the most common misconceptions I hear from therapists is that having a private practice will be easier than working at an agency.

The truth is, you’re working differently but not less. A lot of people make the mistake of thinking ‘If I go into business for myself I won’t have to work as hard.’ Agency work can burn you out, but when you’re running a private practice (ie. a business) you have more than your clients to think about.

That’s why I created the Private Practice 101 seminar. I teach therapists how to make the switch from therapist to business owner. You’ll learn how to build an income generating private practice that will give you the freedom and flexibility you’re looking for.

If you’re thinking about opening a private practice, the first thing you should do is get licensed. It’s not only in the best interest of your clients, but it’s also to benefit and protect you.

3 reasons why you need to get licensed:

✔️ You can become an in-network provider with insurance companies.
✔️ Many companies only want to hire licensed providers. Having a license keeps the door open for any opportunity!
✔️ Continuing education requirements keep you up to date and professionally trained on how to help your clients.

Each state is different, be sure to check your state’s licensing board requirements. To learn more about how to launch and run your private practice, register for my virtual seminar on Jan. 22nd. Click the link to register: http://ow.ly/tnPx50HqWo4

Whether you’re a counselor, a psychologist, psychiatrist or a marriage and family therapist; joining and staying connected to your state's professional organization can have a big impact on your business.

I've been a member of Pennsylvania Psychological Association and I've found the release of information about new state policies that may affect my business to be really helpful. Here's some other cool benefits to becoming a member of your local state's mental health professional organization:

✓ Expand your network and learn from other mental health professionals.
✓ Free to low cost legal consultations with your paid membership.
✓ Discounts on continuing education.
✓ Retirement planning.

One thing I’m grateful for is having a strong core of family and friends. Two people in particular are my husband and a very close friend and colleague who I can bounce any type of business question off of.

It’s good to have people who can push you along. I’m blessed to have a core group in my life who know specific things that I’m struggling with and I trust enough to let them point out where I might have a blind spot about something. I’m thankful for everyone who supports me, checks me, and also encourages me to keep going when I say I want to do something.

Who are you grateful for?

Who do you talk to when you need advice about day-to-day things that come up in your private practice?

I've found one of the most helpful things for me has been my peer supervision group. And that’s just a group of clinicians who I get together to talk to about cases and how to approach things. It's important to build community because running a business can be very isolating.

Here's some tips on how to find your core group:
✓ Reach out to people who you worked well with in graduate school.
✓ Find people who are a little further along in their practice and are willing to share their journey.
✓ Look for people who are similarly like minded and you all can seek the information together.
