Infertility is rarely “just one person’s issue.” Around one-third of cases involve male factors, one-third involve female factors, and many involve both. Evaluating both partners from the start can save time, reduce stress, and lead to a clearer treatment plan.

Before moving forward with treatment, it helps to:
→ Order a semen analysis to evaluate s***m count, movement, and shape
→ Check key hormones and ovarian reserve for the partner who carries the pregnancy
→ Review any history of surgery, STIs, or medical conditions for both partners

💡 Fertility Tip of the Month with Dr. Maureen Kelly at Society Hill Reproductive Medicine:
When both partners are evaluated together, we can identify all contributing factors early and design a plan that truly reflects the full picture.

It is common to wonder how quickly lifestyle changes will show up in your fertility. Many patients hope that a few weeks of new habits will “fix” everything, but egg and s***m development, hormone balance, and cycle patterns usually respond over months, not days.

Realistic timelines to keep in mind:
⏳ S***m quality often reflects the previous 2–3 months of health and habits
🌱 Egg development and hormone patterns can take several months to show change
📆 Consistent habits over 3–6 months matter more than perfection for a week or two

💡 Fertility Tip of the Month with Dr. Maureen Kelly at Society Hill Reproductive Medicine:
Focus on small, sustainable changes you can keep doing. We will track progress together through labs, semen analysis, and cycle patterns so you can see how your efforts are supporting your fertility over time.

If you have been putting off a fertility evaluation, the start of the year can be a natural time to get a baseline.

At Society Hill Reproductive Medicine, a typical work-up might include:
🧪 Hormone and ovarian reserve testing
🧬 Semen analysis
🩻 Uterine and tubal evaluation when appropriate

This information helps us identify what is working well and where more support is needed, so your 2026 plan is based on data, not guesswork.

A new year is a good time to check in with yourself about how long you have been trying to conceive.

General guidance is:
⏱️ Under age 35: consider an evaluation after 12 months of trying
⏱️ Age 35 or older: consider an evaluation after 6 months
⏱️ Any age: seek help sooner if you have irregular cycles, known medical issues, or concerning symptoms

At Society Hill Reproductive Medicine, we turn “I do not know what to do next” into a clear evaluation and plan.

IUI and IVF are powerful tools, but they are built for different situations. The first step is understanding your diagnosis, so you are not choosing based on guesswork or pressure.

Before deciding on IUI or IVF, ask:
🧪 Have we both had a full work-up (egg reserve, semen analysis, uterus and tubes)?
📊 What in my results points toward IUI versus IVF?
🗺️ What is our plan if this option does not work after a few cycles?

💡 Fertility Tip of the Month with Dr. Maureen Kelly at Society Hill Reproductive Medicine:
The “right” treatment is the one that matches your diagnosis, age, and goals.

“I just graduated from Dr.Kelly’s office! Although excited, I am so sad to continue my pregnancy journey without them!!! EVERYONE who works at that office is amazing!!!! They personally got me through the worst of times and the best of times!!!! Although a hard journey, I never felt alone or uninformed!!! Anytime I messaged the nurses, they would get back to me immediately! All the staff were so personable and attentive! I cannot wait to go back for baby number 2!!!!!!” - Hailey L., a Society Hill patient.

Every journey is unique and outcomes are never guaranteed but your experience of care matters.

💙 Male fertility is more than a “s***m count.”

Semen analysis does not check s***m function. We perform a test called a DNA fragmentation test to give us insight into this. We found that small, steady changes can support better s***m health over time:
🥦 Build balanced meals with lean protein, healthy fats, and fiber
🚭 Skip to***co and va**ng, and limit heavy alcohol use
🧊 Avoid extra heat from hot tubs and laptops on your lap

💡 Fertility Tip of the Month with Dr. Maureen Kelly at SHRM:
Consistent lifestyle shifts can improve s***m quality over months, not days.
