Today we are Blessed to have a generous donation of new roofing on the Bier House. Rich Hammond, a native Fishtowner and friend has generously donated his time and his crew to completely replace the old and tattered shingle roofing. We cannot Thank Rich Hammond and his crew enough and hope that all of you who support Palmer Cemetery will consider Hammond Roofing for your future roofing needs.

Our five newest additions to the cemetery trees were planted today. Three Eastern Redbud trees and two Japanese Stewartia trees will add some color in the southeastern section, along Belgrade near Palmer Street. No other trees are planned for this year. We do expect to add several more next year.

Thank you to Joe Toohey, a retired City of Philadelphia Arborist for supervising us. Joe has been helping us for the last 2 years through Saluting Branches and on his own time when needed.

Thanks also to Jack Kalup and Andy Freer for helping us today.

We are planting five trees this week. Our old trees are fighting for their lives, with many not long for this world. We have had to remove a number of trees over the last 15 years and have planted a few. These new additions will be located in the section along Belgrade Street, between Palmer and Eyre Streets.

These trees are planted in Memory of All Who Rest Here. God Bless Them All!

A little Fishtown History that some might remember....CAREY-MCFALLS!

Aluminum blinds and aluminum Christmas trees. Many from the neighborhood worked there at one time or another.

The company started in the 1860s making lamps for carriages and other items. Founded by a Dr. Elias Carey and William McFall. Dr. Carey was a former Civil War surgeon. In the early 1900s the firm expanded into other aluminum items such as venetian blinds and aluminum Christmas trees.

I believe they closed up in the early 1980s from their Dauphin Street location. They were also located in Montoursville PA.

I believe the building located at 2154 E. Dauphin Street is now apartments. A warehouse once stood where Konrad Square sits today. It was the Atlantic Knitting Mills

Many business's existed in and close by our neighborhood, with many of us working in one or another.

Those were the days!
