During the pandemic, the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta provides guidance and information and this is what they say:
“People of any age with certain underlying medical conditions are at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19:
People of any age with the following conditions are at increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19:
Cancer
Chronic kidney disease
COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
Immunocompromised state (weakened immune system) from solid organ transplant
Obesity (body mass index [BMI] of 30 or higher)
Serious heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, or cardiomyopathies
Sickle cell disease
Type 2 diabetes mellitus”
As can be seen from the above, most of the risk factors for a more severe farm of COVID have to do with obesity including diabetes, and obesity itself.
Unfortunately, the lockdown is making people gain weight so much so that we are calling it “The other COVID-19”, where people gain about 19-20 lbs during the pandemic.
