Center for Families and Relationships

Center for Families and Relationships CFAR is a nonprofit counseling center serving the needs of individuals, couples, and families.

CFAR was founded more than 20 years ago with the intent to support and empower struggling families. Today, we continue the work that began with our founder, Maryann Volk and reach a broad and diverse population. The staff at CFAR is passionate about working with families to create safety, resiliency, heal and make lifelong positive changes. If you or your family are "feeling stuck", consider making an intake appointment to meet with a therapist and learn new coping skills to have a positive influence on your life!

Day 6 of our top 10 highlights of 2025! As CFAR has expanded rapidly over the past few years, we needed to grow our Board of Directors. We were so fortunate to bring on several incredible new board members with a wide variety of critical skills and connections. To learn more about (from top left) Chantel Mason, Lynn Roberts, Amanda Rodi, Conrad Montlouis, Danielle LaGuerre, and Joanna Maxwell please visit cfarcounseling.org/board-of-directors

Day 5 of our top 10 highlights! Our Children Deserving Services program, which provides free mental health services to uninsurable youth, has had a growing waiting list that the program could not fully address with the limited funding available. Thanks to an incredible grant from the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (), the program is hiring an additional therapist, and also able to hold more workshops to reach a larger audience. We are so excited for this growth, and the impact on the struggling immigrant communities the program serves will be immeasurable.

Day 4 of our top 10 highlights and we wanted to show our appreciation in this time of giving. CFAR launched a Community Wellness Sponsor program this year and we are so incredibly grateful for our sponsors so far. These companies help support our efforts to build innovative programming and outreach events around family and community mental health. Day 3 of our top 10 highlights and we are dreaming about the beautiful spring day filled with music, games, wellness activities, delicious food, and mental health information and resources. Our first North Philadelphia Community Wellness Day was a wonderful way for CFAR to connect with the communities surrounding our new offices at Helen Brown Community Center. With the support of donors and sponsors, we plan to hold this impactful event again in 2026! To help support these efforts, visit cfarcounseling.org/donate.

Day 2 of the top 10 highlights of 2025! The CFAR staff holiday party is always a wonderful time for the team to connect and celebrate. Our Lift Committee organizes fun games that help the ever-growing team learn more about each other and get everyone chatting. Of course the therapists are great at getting the conversations going!

As the countdown to the end of the year approaches, CFAR is highlighting our top 10 moments of 2025. At the top spot is the opening of our second outpatient site in North Philadelphia in April! This project was a long time coming, and CFAR was honored to partner with to open therapy offices within their Helen Brown Community Center. The new office is thriving, and gives the neighborhood access to much-needed family therapy services. These successes couldn’t happen without the support of our donors- be sure you give today at cfarcounseling.org/donate

It’s the time of year when loved ones gather for the holidays. The support of these loved ones is particularly critical for the vulnerable families that CFAR serves, and our work to help them build strong and healthy relationships is critical. Please help us continue providing impactful mental health services by making a donation at cfarcounseling.org/donate today.

We’re so proud of the work we’re doing in the community: raising awareness about mental health and trauma, offering free services to some of the highest risk populations, working to expand into areas that lack access to high quality care, and so much more. All while preparing for looming Medicaid cuts. This work is important and we MUST continue, but we can’t do it without your help. Please visit cfarcounseling.org/donate to support CFAR today!

An estimated 300,000 Pennsylvanians are expected to lose Medicaid coverage in the coming year. CFAR will fight to make sure that the (mostly Medicaid) clients we serve continue to receive the critical mental health services they need in the face of these cuts, while also preparing for the impact on our budget, but we need your help. Your donation on this will allow us to continue providing mental health services to some of the most vulnerable communities in Philadelphia, helping them heal and thrive in the face of poverty and trauma. Right now, these communities are struggling more than ever with the rising cost of living and cuts to services and benefits. Despite the hurdles ahead, CFAR will continue our mission of building strength and resiliency in families through our counseling services, and we hope you'll support that mission with a donation today. Philadelphia Children’s Alliance held another wonderful breakfast for mental health partners yesterday, and it was an excellent reminder of the importance of connecting with the amazing networks of providers in the area. We’re all so much more successful and impactful thanks to our incredible partnerships and collaborations. Thank you
