🩸Why Iron matters
Iron is important for keeping our body and red blood cells oxygenated and energized. Iron is considered an essential mineral because it is needed to produce hemoglobin, a vital protein in red blood cells. Iron is also vital for brain development.

🥦🥬Food Sources -There are two types of iron you can obtain from your diet: non-heme and heme iron. Heme iron is found in animal products like eggs and meat. Non heme iron can be found in plant based foods such as dark leafy greens, beans, fruits and seeds.

😴🥱Signs of Iron deficiency - Low levels of iron due to diet or blood loss can result in weakness, fatigue, iron deficiency anemia, headaches, heart palpitation, dizziness, hair thinning /brittle nails.

👧👩‍🦳🙋‍♀️Females of a reproductive age are the most common age group where iron deficiency is seen. Pregnant women and breast feeding women are at more risk of Iron deficiency.

🍋To increase iron absorption, combine some Vitamin C (pairing heme iron foods with citrus). This means squeezing some fresh lemon juice or adding some citrus fruits in your diet can increase iron absorption.

🔥In Ayurveda, anemia and low iron comes from a weak Agni (digestive fire) and the formation of ama (toxins). Agni needs to be re-kindled so it can support proper digestion.

Daily Yoga Poses for Hormone Balance

Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana): This pose helps massage the adrenal glands to improve their function and regulates thyroid gland secretion.

Cat & Cow Pose (Marjarasana): These movements help stimulate and balance both the adrenal and thyroid glands.

Bow Pose (Dhanurasana): Stimulates the reproductive organs and helps relieve constipation and menstrual discomfort.

Downward-Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana): Helps alleviate symptoms of menopause, reduces stress, and supports hormonal balance.

Child’s Pose (Balasana): One of the best poses to relax the nervous system, relieve lower back tension, and ease menstrual cramps.

Camel Pose (Ustrasana): This backbend offers a wide range of benefits, opening the heart and stimulating the thyroid gland.

Bridge Pose (Setu Bandhasana): Helps reduce thyroid-related issues and provides relief from menopausal and menstrual pain.

Garland or Squat Pose (Malasana): Strengthens the core and pelvic floor while releasing tension in the hips.

Butterfly Pose (Baddha Konasana): Helps release stress from the hips and strengthens the pelvic floor and adrenal glands.

Tree Pose (Vrikshasana): Stimulates the pituitary gland, opens the hips, and strengthens the feet.

Recommendation: Integrate these into your daily routine along with Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar) for the best results.

Here are some simple health tips for winter season.

✅ Abhyanga -Oil massage- A full body morning oil massage using sesame oil is one of the most pleasant Vata balancing practice. Try it, before showering, massage the whole body. Apply warm oil inside your ear and feet at night.

✅Stay warm - wear a hat and scarf to cover your head and ears before heading out. Ears are one of the main seats of Vata.

❌Avoid cold foods like ice cream, avoid raw, cold fruits and veggies.

✅ Add healthy fats like Ghee in the diet.

✅Eat spices like turmeric, ginger in the diet.

✅Cooked root vegetables like sweet potatoes, squash, carrots, beetroots are hearty, heavy and nutrient dense - ideal for winter.

✅Exercise - staying active will keep up your energy levels and bodies warm in winter.

🌿 Herbs like Amalaki loaded with immune boosting antioxidants, is an excellent supplement during the winter season.
