Penn Pre-Medical Association

Penn Pre-Medical Association A student-run pre-health organization at the University of Pennsylvania. We are an organization that strives to meet the needs of the pre-med students at Penn.

The Penn Pre-Medical Association was founded in 2009 by combining the John Morgan Pre-Health Society (JMPHS) and Penn’s chapter of the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) —two former student-run pre-professional groups at Penn. From speaker events to physician shadowing programs, we hold various events throughout the academic year to provide opportunities for our members to experience the field of health care.

**UPDATE: WE HAVE REACHED OUR MATCHING CAPACITY. THANK YOU ALL WHO HAVE DONATED AND WE CONTINUE TO ENCOURAGE YOU ALLL TO DONATE AND EDUCATE YOURSELF AND OTHERS**

Racial injustice is a pressing issue with many intersections, including those in the LGBTQ+ community. Furthermore, PPMA recognizes the importance of mental health in addressing health disparities and would like to support organizations that may not have received much attention during these times. In supporting the Black Lives Matter Movement and Pride Month, PPMA will be matching donations to the Mental Health Fund at NQTTCN, an organization that provides financial assistance to q***r and trans people of color (QTPoC) to increase access to mental health support. Specifically, they work to provide financial support for QTPoC to work with psychotherapists in an effort to address the economic barriers in healthcare and the mental health system.

STATEMENT OF SOLIDARITY:
As an organization, we acknowledge and grieve the recent events against African Americans that have exposed the systemic racism plaguing our country. Because of this inequality, countless lives have been lost without mercy, including those of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Tony McDade. PPMA has always stood in support of diversity and equality for all within the Penn community, regardless of background and identity. We recognize that racism continues to persist, evident not only in the medical community but throughout the world. PPMA stands in solidarity and support of the Black community and we believe action must be taken.

Hey everyone!
We hope you are all doing well and staying safe despite everything that is happening at Penn right now. We wanted to reach out and keep you guys updated on what will be happening with the events that were originally planned for this semester.

We are currently communicating with The Princeton Review to find out whether or not the MCAT Practice Session can be administered online. We will keep you updated when we know more!

Unfortunately, all of our other planned events, including coffee chats and the Physician Shadowing Program, will be cancelled. However, we will prioritize those who signed up for the Physician Shadowing Program this semester for next year's program, as long as you remain active in the club.

Lastly, we want to remind everyone to please be safe and try your best to avoid large crowds if possible! We need to work together to stay as safe and healthy as possible.

We're sad that this semester came to an end this way but we hope you have a great rest of the semester and summer. Be safe, we'll see you next year!
