🎉 Yesterday, November 30, we celebrated an extraordinary milestone: the 150th anniversary date of the founding of St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children!

Since 1875, St. Chris has been a beacon of hope and healing for Philadelphia-area families—providing not only expert medical care, but compassion, dignity, and unwavering support.

💙 Every staff member—physicians, nurses, technicians, security, facilities, EVS, food services, and more—carries forward the spirit that has defined the hospital for 150 years.

🍪 To mark the occasion, hundreds of specially-made anniversary cookies were distributed to staff! St. Chris was also honored by an official citation from Governor Josh Shapiro, and a Philadelphia City Council proclamation declaring November 30 “St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children Day” in the city.

Thank you for being part of our story of excellence, compassion, and dedication to children and families. Here’s to the next chapter of hope. 💙

It was a great event as usual today, as held our annual Thanksgiving meal distribution for 300 families of St. Chris patients!

Each family received, free of charge, all the fixings for a Thanksgiving dinner for four, including an 8 to 10-pound antibiotic-free turkey, bread, eggs, collard greens, cabbage, apples, pears, and potatoes. The meals were funded by donations from hospital staff, their families and friends.

Big thanks to our many volunteers, from organizations including the Rotary Club of Philadelphia, Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, PECO, Freire Charter High School, Kensington Health Science Academy, Drexel University, and Holy Family University.

Community partners were also onsite offering a variety of resources to families, including Healthy Minds Philly, Asociación Puertorriqueños en Marcha, Healthy NewsWorks, Congreso de Latinos Unidos, and Steady Strides Behavior Solutions.

Another month, another prestigious national honor for St. Christopher's Hospital for Children's Surgeon-in-Chief, Martin Herman, MD!

The Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA) has chosen Dr. Herman as its 2025 Humanitarian Award winner. This honor follows on the heels of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Orthopaedics’ awarding Dr. Herman the Distinguished Service Award, its highest honor.

The POSNA award goes to a member who has made exceptional humanitarian efforts to improve the lives of children worldwide, with the honor reserved for leaders whose work exemplifies compassion, excellence, and service.

As the society noted, Dr. Herman’s career reflects nearly three decades of unwavering dedication to the children and families in our region.

closed out October by transforming the hospital's Lower Atrium into a vibrant celebration of Italian culture, during our first annual Italian American Heritage Month Festival.

Staff, patients, and families were treated to an afternoon filled with music, crafts, and lots of Italian food, all of which paid homage to Italy’s rich traditions.

Guests lined up for antipasti, Sicilian pizza, tomato pies, pasta, cannoli, and pastries, donated by , , and . Italian water ice added to the fun.
