It was a touching evening this week, when families who made the life-saving decision to donate their late child’s organs to help save others were celebrated in a ceremony honoring their courage and selflessness.

The event was part of St. Christopher’s National Donate Life Month activities to raise awareness of the importance of organ donation.

Nationally, almost 1,900 children received lifesaving transplants in 2025, matched from nearly 900 pediatric organ donors. Right now, there are more than 2,200 children on the national transplant waiting list. More than 700 children waiting for a donor organ are under 6 years old.

Meet Fergus!

Believe it or not, at 120 pounds, this super-friendly Dogue de Bordeaux Mastiff was the “runt of the litter”… but around here, he’s a very big and beloved part of the care team.

On National Therapy Animal Day, we’re celebrating the comfort, connection, and smiles that Fergus and our pet therapy volunteers bring to patients and families every day. From easing anxiety to brightening tough moments, their impact goes far beyond what words can describe.

Support programs like this and the care we provide by visiting the link below and selecting “Therapy Dog” from the dropdown menu.

Thank you to the many St. Chris team members who helped make this year’s edition of Take Your Child to Work Day such a success!

It was a wonderful day, as we provided multiple opportunities for the children of staff to experience the workplace in a fun and engaging way. There was a great turnout and the participants had a terrific time.

Thank you especially to Human Resources and Volunteer Services for planning and coordinating the activities tailored to each child’s age and interests.

This month, we celebrate our St. Chris inpatient and outpatient occupational therapists, who work each day to help babies, children and adolescents meet their developmental milestones and participate in meaningful activities that they need, want or are expected to do each day.

OT’s help kids develop their skills or adapt the environment to improve participation in areas like dressing, handwriting, playing or emotional regulation.

We recognize and appreciate the dedication of occupational therapists who help individuals regain independence and improve their quality of life. Thank you for the vital work you do every day!

On Sunday, a St. Chris team proudly represented the hospital at the 28th Annual Gift of Life Donor Program Donor Dash at the Navy Yard in South Philadelphia.

The event featured 10K and 5K runs, and a 3K walk, to raise money that helps fund the Transplant Foundation, the charitable foundation that supports programs and activities for donor and recipient families.

Thanks to everyone who took part in this annual event that raises awareness of the importance of organ donation!

As part of the celebration of April as National Donate Life Month, this past Friday St. Christopher's staff provided help to Gift of Life Donor Program's Howie’s House, a home-away-from-home for transplant patients and their families that provides temporary, affordable lodging and supportive services to those who travel to Philadelphia for transplant-related care.

Our “Stuff the Shuttle” event saw boxes full of needed goods, from food to laundry detergent to hand sanitizer, piled high in the Howie's House shuttle bus. Thank you to our generous St. Chris team!

During Every Kid Healthy Week, we’re highlighting the importance of building healthy habits early.

Our community garden is more than just a green space. It’s a hands-on way to connect kids and families to fresh, nutritious food and the importance of healthy habits from the start.

Through initiatives like our Food Access Fund, we’re working to remove barriers and ensure families have access to the nourishment they need to grow, heal, and thrive. Because every child deserves the opportunity to live a healthy life.

🎉St. Christopher's celebrates our amazing volunteers during National Volunteer Week! In the Anesthesia Department, Practice Manager Denyse Alibocas brought a gift basket of treats for the volunteers there. Denyse herself was a volunteer at St. Chris a decade ago. She's now a leader of a crucial department at the hospital. Denyse’s gesture of appreciation is just one of the ways St. Christopher’s helped recognize our incredible volunteers this week! Thank you! 🩷

St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, in partnership with the Dunkin' Joy In Childhood Foundation , is once again hosting a special prom for young patients facing serious illness—many of whom would otherwise miss their own proms—along with their families.

The Annual Oncology Family Prom takes place on May 20, and today the boys and dads enjoyed an exciting preview of the big night when they had their tuxedos fitted. A heartfelt thank-you to Domenico’s Formalwear on Frankford Avenue in Philadelphia for once again generously providing tuxedos free of charge and helping make this unforgettable evening possible.

Training School Nurses in Philadelphia — and Across the Globe 🌍

At St. Christopher’s, caring for children doesn’t stop at hospital walls—it extends into communities, classrooms, and now, across the globe.

Each quarter, we partner with school nurses in Philadelphia and local districts to provide continuing training, share best practices, and support the vital role they play in student health.

Now, through connections with the Philadelphia School District, those sessions have been joined by school nurses from the Ghana International School in that African nation, who are joining our sessions virtually for professional development.

The key lesson: the importance of continuous learning in pediatric nursing knows no boundaries!
