Children undergoing treatment for cancer are often unable to enjoy a simple activity taken for granted by so many other kids — Halloween trick-or-treating.

So 's Oncology Clinic hosted its Annual Halloween Party for cancer patients and their families. Children (as well as parents and staff!) enjoyed dressing up in costume, as well as music, food, crafts, pumpkin painting, and face painting.

Patients and their siblings also participated in a trick-or-treat parade around the hospital’s atrium.

Thank you to the non-profit group Friends of Joey, which again generously provided food, crafts, pumpkin and face painting, and volunteers to help staff the event.

Volunteer Spotlight: Trisha Kek

Trisha, a Sr Business Program Manager at PECO, gives her time at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children by helping with everything from distributing gifts to supporting special community events.

Her connection is personal — her niece received life-saving care here as an infant. Trisha promised that if her niece made it through, she would dedicate herself to giving back. Today, her niece is celebrating her 8th birthday thanks to the care she received at St. Christopher’s.

For Trisha, the most meaningful part of volunteering is the people: the staff, volunteers, and community members who all come together with one goal: — making a difference for children. She also sees how volunteerism inspires youth to get involved, creating a ripple effect of kindness and service.

“Volunteering keeps life in perspective,” she says. “It reminds me what really matters — the kids, because they’re the leaders of tomorrow.”
Thank you, Trisha, for your compassion and dedication to our St. Christopher’s family.

At St. Christopher’s, health equity is more than medicine – it’s about meeting families where they are.

For Dr. Hans Kersten, a pediatrician at , that means addressing challenges like food insecurity and literacy head-on. In addition to his work at St. Chris, he also serves as a professor at . Through his leadership, our Reach Out and Read program has grown into one of the most successful in the nation, transforming every well-child visit into an opportunity to spark curiosity and confidence through books.

Dr. Kersten’s vision reminds us that caring for kids means caring for the whole child, and we’re grateful for his dedication to our patients and families.

Is there a St. Chris physician you’re grateful for? Share their name in the comments below, and honor them today with a gift that helps us continue this important work: givestchris.org.

Yom Kippur, also known as the Day of Atonement, is one of the holiest days in Judaism. According to Jewish tradition, God decides each person’s fate on Yom Kippur, and adherents are encouraged to ask for forgiveness and make amends for sins committed during the past year. The holiday is observed through fasting, prayer, and repentance.

For those who observe Yom Kippur, may this day bring you peace and spiritual renewal.
