1️⃣0️⃣ years ago this month I submitted my application to go back to school for an associates degree in personal training. I had found my “new” passion in the health and fitness world after Carson was born. I knew this was what I wanted to do and I was so excited.
I knew very little about the fitness industry. I knew I had goggled everything known to man to try to figure out how to eat properly to fuel my body, and I received a different answer with every search.
I was in the best shape of my life and had under 18% body fat. Which led to MANY job offers, in the fitness world. I would tell them I had no formal training or schooling but it didn’t seem to matter. They would teach me along the way …..
❌That didn’t work for me. I am a science ju**ie. I wanted to be certain I was going to have the proper form. I wanted to be certain I was going to offer the right nutritional advise. I wanted to know how to help people attain their goals. I wanted to be certain I was practicing what I preached.
💵🕰 So I invested the time and money and went to school. I chose a professional certification that requires continuing education. I always want my clients and members to know that I am continuing to educate myself to help them in the healthiest/safest possible way.
✳️Things I have learned from 10 years in the fitness industry ….
1. Science doesn’t sell - unfortunately it’s all about quick fix products.
2. It’s hard for people to commit to lifestyle changes.
3. ANYONE can call themselves a coach, expert, or become certified in anything for $25 up to $1000. It’s about money not education.
4. Out of 25 students there is only 3 of us left practicing.
5. Many of my mentors have left the industry because of the disordered practices in order to make money.
6. There are LITTLE TO NO FDA regulations on protein or any other “supplements”.
‼️ I have also learned
1. Helping people is truly my passion regardless of what kind of help is needed.
2. Watching someone find success based on how their body works is the most rewarding because it will become their lifestyle and their results will last.
3. Mindy and Body are connected way more than we can imagine.
4. Fitness isn’t always just a body image or size or weight …. It’s about being part of something so much greater than yourself!
5. Your fitness partners or those in class really do become family.
6. Working out in a group environment scientifically has proven to burn more calories.
7. Science is IMPORTANT!! After suffering from autoimmune health issues leading to the crash of my thyroid I was thankful for my background in healing my body and not relying on quick fix products.
☝🏼So as my TEN year anniversary comes and goes I can say for certain I AM PROUD of how I have helped my clients and members. Did I make a million dollars? No. Have I hit the top in diet sales or products? No.
💪🏼What I have done though, is educated thousands. I have trained a soap opera star, world class athletes, I have helped our community lose well over 5,000 pounds, I have made friends and became family with so many I would not have otherwise, and finally I have made a mark in the industry as the “one you can trust” because I educate and not sell. 💜🔥
