PCHS Offers In-Person STOP THE BLEED® Training
Phillips County Health Systems (PCHS) is proud to announce the launch of in-person STOP THE BLEED® training courses for the community, aimed at equipping individuals with the life-saving skills necessary to control severe bleeding in emergency situations.
The STOP THE BLEED® program, developed by the American College of Surgeons, is designed to empower the public by teaching basic bleeding control techniques. The course focuses on three key skills:
Applying direct pressure
Packing a wound
Using a tourniquet
These techniques can mean the difference between life and death in the critical minutes before emergency responders arrive.
“In rural communities like ours, where farming and industrial work are a part of daily life, the risk of serious injury is very real,” said Petrik. “Access to emergency services in certain areas in the county can take time, and knowing how to control bleeding on the scene can save a life. This training empowers our residents to step in confidently and make a difference when seconds count.”
The goal of the STOP THE BLEED® program is not only to teach practical skills, but also to raise awareness about the risks of uncontrolled bleeding—a leading cause of preventable death after injury. The training is ideal for individuals, families, local businesses, first responders, schools, and community organizations.
Anyone interested in participating in a course or arranging a training for their workplace or group is encouraged to contact Katie Petrik directly for more information at (785) 540- 4921 or kpetrik@phillipshospital.org.
