NORTHERN LIGHTS- Classic Heirloom

It had been years since we grew Northern Lights at the farm, so we were thrilled to acquire seeds from a preservationist who worked with some of the old stock that had been stored since 1983.

As the story goes….the NL-1 or “Purest Indica” is the original variety of Northern Lights. It was first acquired in 1979 by Seattle Greg through the author Murphy Stevens and became the backbone of all the Northern Lights hybrids. Murphy worked with these genetics and developed the Northern Lights line of #1 through #11 —the number one being closest to the “Purest Indica” and the number eleven being the most tropical or sativa leaning.

We grew out #1 and #5 this year, which we think are the best of the line. Both are being released tho coming week.

With potency in the mid 20s, Northern Lights is in our GREEN category for focused effects. The NL-1 will lean to a more narcotic sedation.

BTW- Strawberry Meltshake smells like the ripest strawberry’s in spring. We will be releasing this cultivar, as well as Northern Lights (NL-1 & NL-5), Big Sur Holy W**d and Acapulco Gold later this week.

HUIXTEPEC~ Oaxaca Landrace.

Like some of the other Oaxacan landraces we have grown out, these are some of the last plants we have hanging out and they still need more time. The Oaxaca cultivars and their effects are indeed special. We were fortunate to acquire seeds from a preservationist in Mexico that is collecting genetics from different regions and villages.

If you ask us what we searching for in perfect flower to offer on our menu, it will always be about the effects or the therapeutic potential. We appreciate pretty 🌱 that is grown for its cosmetic bag appeal, but the ultimate goal should be the effects. We want happy w**d and that is why we continue to dive into the true genetics of some of these legendary sativas as well as their lessor known cousins.

“Sunday SAP Luxury Edition — The African Gold clearly got a lot of attention, so naturally I decided to assess it. This time I was fortunate enough to share with Director at his home. We were both excited to experience this flower!

According to Jim “This was a cross we did with two African landraces. With the effects, it has been said that the African cultivars need a classification all their own.” And that’s absolutely true; I’ve never smoked anything like this.

During the assessment, Derek and I went through each section of the SAP individually yet simultaneously. We then compared our scores for every parameter of that section (you don’t see all of our metrics on the reports) and discussed. From top to bottom we were either exactly the same, or within a few tenths of a point apart. I felt surprised and validated!

The profile we got was mostly suede leather, cashews, basil, mango peel, Earl Grey, sandalwood, and honeysuckle. But then there’s an evolution into sweet and medicinal with Bubblebath and cough drops.

The effects are what really blew us away. We were in that lull after taking dabs a few hours earlier. African Gold has an energizing buzz that cut through everything and got our attention. And quickly, I might add! It’s strong right up front, racy without jitters, fun and functional, social. Outstanding Sativa traits from an exotic equatorial cultivar.

Being able to appreciate both the genealogy and the quality of craftsmanship as a professional is something I cherish. I’m very picky, but I’m fair. My standards are extremely high. Derek’s are even higher. The score of 92 is the highest praise, indeed. Well done, Jim and everyone at The Bohemian Chemist! 🙌🏼💚”

Several years in the making, we have just harvested Blue Hawaii Dream at Sugar Hill Farm. We have been focused on terpene clusters that are underrepresented in the current fickle marketplace that is steered by trends (No Candy Gas Folks🙄). This cultivar will be in GREEN category.

In our research we found a true Blue Dream that had been preserved in Santa Cruz since the early 2000’s and crossed it with the very rare Hawaii heirloom, Molokai Frost. Before this breeding project we analyzed lab reports and found that both varieties were dominate in aPinene and bPinene, which our contacts in the medical community were requested for their patient base. We are excited to offer Blue Hawaii Dream in the months to come after a long cure.

SUPER DELUXE!! As we are just starting to harvest this remarkable cultivar, we wanted to share some of the images taken a few weeks ago at Sugar Hill Farm by . For a hybrid, this is what remarkable breeding work that can be done using a toolbox of ancient landrace cultivars. We look forward to offering this one on our menu.

Key Information-
Super Deluxe is a further generation of Double Dalai which is a poly hybrid variety which was bred using 4 different landrace varieties Hindu Kush, Burma, Kashmir and Chitral Valley. It was bred between 2018/19- 2022 in Northern India by . Super Deluxe as a variety goes out of the realms of pure landraces and imbibes some of the important traits such as a short flowering term, short enough to finish outdoors in higher latitudes before the snow sets in. Higher intensity of the aromas and effects both and a denser production of resin glands compared to its predecessor.

Genetic Sources-
1. Chitral valley seeds came in as marked F2 generation in 2019 from Bodhi of Bodhi seeds
2. Hindu Kush seeds were collected by Baba Qo from Andarab village in north east Afghanistan in 2017.
3. Burmese landrace seeds were collected from burma Mong hsat in 2019
4. Neelam Valley seeds came through a friend who collected the seeds in 2015 and sent them to us in 2016.
