📺 Is screen time a tricky topic for your family?
If so, you’re not alone!

Hi! 👋 I’m Alison, a speech-language pathologist and a mom. Here’s my take on screen time ⬇️

✨ Yes, it’s important to limit screen time for young children.

✨ AND it’s not always feasible or even ideal for families to implement a zero screen time policy. There are so many factors to consider!

✨ When I’m asked about screen time, I encourage families to begin by asking themselves this one question. Once we identify if/where we need to make shifts, we can begin developing a plan that is realstic for everyone.

📺 How do you approach this topic, either with your own family or with families you work with? Share your thoughts in the comments below! ⬇️
I snapped this photo of my youngest while my oldest (3 years) was watching a show. I had put the TV on so I could do a 30 minute home workout. I felt guilty. And then I reminded myself that taking these 30 minutes for myself would make me a happier and more present caregiver the rest of the day.

If you’re celebrating Halloween this year, try these simple tips to make it more enjoyable for everyone 👇

👻 When a child comes to your door, resist telling them to “say trick or treat!” All children communicate differently and not everyone will say trick or treat. Hand over the treats anyway.

🎃 Non-candy options in a separate bowl are always good to have. Children with allergies or food limitations still want to participate in Halloween.

🧙‍♀️ If a child isn’t wearing a costume, there is probably a reason. Whether it’s sensory differences, financial limitations, or any other reason, it’s not helpful to point it out.

🐈‍⬛ Consider moving your treat bowl to a more accessible area like the driveway, sidewalk, or street-level. This will reduce obstacles and make it more accessible for everyone!

👻 Remember that every child has a story. So let’s reduce the pressure, smile, and hand over that treat bowl 🍬

Do you already do any of these? Let me know in the comment below! 👇

Does your toddler make any of these speech errors?

❤️ Young children often have difficulty producing some speech sounds correctly, especially as they are just learning to speak.

🧡 In an effort to simplify speech sounds, they often produce errors such as the ones seen in this post. In many cases, these errors are considered developmentally appropriate and will resolve on their own.

💛 However, if these speech patterns persist beyond the likely age of elimination, or if you have any concerns about your child’s speech/language development, it’s important to seek an evaluation with a speech-language pathologist.

💚 In some situations, we do work on these errors before the ages listed in this chart. Every child is different, and there are multitude of factors that help determine if/when a child requires services.

* This is not an exhaustive list.
