Our Story

In the mid-1900s, a young couple learned their son was mentally disabled. Since there was nothing modern medicine could do for him, the doctor suggested the couple give him to a home - and rid their minds of him. Distraught and desperate for answers the couple met with Pastor Harold β€œSwede” Johnson for comfort and guidance. Instead, they received banter about it being β€œGod’s will”. The couple was furious.

Disappointed with his response to the family, Pastor Johnson committed his life to making it up to the couple, and the disability community. He became a prolific fundraiser and advocate and raised millions of dollars for an assortment of charity organizations serving the disabled community. In 1970, he took things a step further and formed Good Shepherd Fund. A non-profit organization committed to improving the overall quality of life for vulnerable minors and adults by offering professional services like Guardianship or Conservator of the Person, Power of Attorney, and Conservator of the Estate.

In 1999, Good Shepherd Fund expanded, and began administering various trusts and estates helping minors and adults maintain their government benefits, protect their money, and manage their spending.

Although Pastor Johnson never had the opportunity to apologize to the family, we hope his work through Good Shepherd Fund, has earned their forgiveness.
