If your horse is working through these colder months to get in/stay in shape be mindful of warming up and cooling down your workouts with them. A lot of those really powerful muscle groups steal the show when we cut our training short and go for gold, leading to imbalances in muscle development and really tight muscles.

There's so much body language to look at in this video but I'm sure we can all agree the licking and chewing is a great sign! The more you look the more you can see: those ears are listening, her head is slowly dropping. During a massage I'm paying attention to one muscle at a time while being in tune with the whole horse and all their subtleties.

Do you stretch before a workout? Me neither 😬but I should!
Sparing even 5 minutes from your ride to stretch your horse before hopping on helps then move better, helps you understand where they might be holding tension, and gets them thinking with you before you step foot on trail or in the arena.

We all know a horse that's stiff turning one way and supple going the other way. Massage can help identify muscles that contribute to this, loosening them up, and allowing us to strengthen them while they are less guarded. Over time this horse will be able to support themselves better and bend through the turn with ease!
