I wrote this Op-Ed to put words to something families have known for a long time. Alzheimer’s is not just a neurological condition. It’s a relational one.

We don’t have billing codes for “helped a family stay connected” or “supported a care partner through grief”, yet those are often the interventions that matter most.

Until care reflects that, we will keep falling short.

Do you think our healthcare system can effectively integrate the care partner/family? And how? We would love to hear your innovative ideas!

Appreciate the opportunity to contribute this piece to the Daily Independent. Read the full article here: https://www.yourvalley.net/detail.html?sub_id=b8401fb288

“The reality is that Alzheimer’s starts in midlife… we can significantly slow down when it will ever start, if we take action as early as possible.”

The science is moving. The gap is in how early and how seriously we take brain health in everyday care.

Excited to be quoted in The Arizona Republic alongside Bob Ehlers and the Alzheimer’s Association Desert Southwest chapter.

Building a resilient decade starts with this one shift.

Dr. Esra Shermadou shares the essential mindset shift for building a resilient brain and body over the next decade.

Motivation is unreliable. Resilience is built on your "Why." Commit to just 15 minutes today. Listen to your body, but show up for your future self.

Want to live independently at 80? Start doing this now.

In this clip from the podcast, Dr. Esra Shermadou shares a powerful little reminder everyone needs to hear: You can build muscle at any age. Whether you are 40, 60, or 80, your body is waiting for the signal to get stronger.

Muscle is a "use it or lose it" asset that directly impacts your quality of life and brain health. It is never too late to start. Even small movements today build the "buffer" you'll need tomorrow.

If you’ve been waiting for a sign to start strength training, this is it.

🧠 💜 HB 2202 passed unanimously today at the AZ Senate Appropriations Committee Hearing, and I had the privilege of being part of this effort.

This bill supports telementoring programs in Alzheimer's and related diseases bringing high-quality, accessible training directly to primary care providers so more people can be recognized earlier and receive the right care at the right time.

We are breaking the cycle of limited clinical training -> limited skills -> limited care in a cost-effective way that avoids having to build new clinics and train more specialists.

Deep gratitude to Representative Dr. Selina Bliss (https://www.linkedin.com/in/selina-bliss/)
for championing this bill and seeing it through, and to Tory Roberg (https://www.linkedin.com/in/tory-roberg/)

and the Alzheimer's Association Desert Southwest Chapter https://www.linkedin.com/company/alzheimers-association-desert-southwest-chapter/) for their advocacy, partnership, and unwavering commitment to this community. 🧠 💜

This is how change happens together.

In this week’s episode, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Dr. Esra Shermadou, a board-certified Family and Obesity Medicine physician who is redefining what "wellness" looks like through her practice, Sakinah Health.

Dr. Esra’s perspective is deeply personal. After navigating a cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy at just 21 years old, she didn’t just recover, she rebuilt. That journey sparked a lifelong passion for strength training, not for aesthetics, but for survival and long-term vitality.

We also explore the Direct Primary Care model—a way of practicing medicine that allows us to slow down, listen, and treat the whole person rather than just the symptoms.

Even without words, music can speak volumes.

Holding a hand, listening to a song that means something, maybe your first dance at your wedding, or a lullaby your mom sang, can create a deep, intimate connection that words often can’t. These moments matter. They remind us that love isn’t about grand gestures, it’s about presence, care, and connection.

Families often share the joy and peace these simple acts bring, long after their loved one has passed. It’s proof that even small, intentional moments can make a lasting impact.Watch the full video to learn how music can transform caregiving and create lasting memories

The person is still in there.

It’s easy to assume that a "flat" expression in advanced Alzheimer's means nothing is happening internally. But Dr. Maribeth Gallagher reminds us that our loved ones are still present, waiting for us to reach in and connect.

Music can be a bridge that affirms their personhood and lets them know they are seen, heard, and valued.
