A simple conversation with a neighborhood kid stopped me in my tracks.
She mentioned her school told students not to talk about certain topics because “people get really mad.” She was eight.
It made me wonder when we decided avoidance was better than teaching kids how to disagree with respect.

Disagreement isn’t the problem.
Not knowing how to handle it is.
That moment inspired our next Little Lessons story about siblings, big feelings, and learning that you don’t have to agree to stay connected.
Because kids don’t need fewer conversations.
They need better tools for the hard ones.

I wrote more about it here 👇

Why learning how to disagree matters for kids. A story about siblings, big feelings, and building understanding without anger or shame.

We recently had to say goodbye to our family dog, Stanley.
What followed was a conversation we never expected to have so soon… telling our three-year-old that someone he loved had died.

There are a lot of familiar phrases people use with kids in moments like this. They’re well intentioned. But after slowing down and thinking about how a toddler’s brain actually works, we chose a different approach: simple, honest language.

When we told Matteo the truth, there were no tears. Just a few quiet questions and a sense of clarity that helped him feel safe.

I wrote about the experience, the exact script we used, and why honesty mattered more than softened stories.

If this is a conversation you’re navigating — or one you know will come eventually — I hope this helps.

Closing out the year feeling incredibly grateful 🩵

This year, Little Lessons Media went from an idea to a real, living thing… books in hands, conversations at events, and a community that showed up with so much love.

Launching was just the beginning. What’s mattered most has been the people: families, educators, readers, and supporters who believed in these stories and helped them grow.

Standing behind a booth, hearing what resonated, and seeing these books connect with kids has been one of the most meaningful parts of this journey.

There’s so much more ahead and I can’t wait to share the next chapter with you.

Thank you for being part of this story 🤍

Gentle parenting sounded great…
then my kids showed up 😅

Turns out it works best for gentle kids.
I didn’t get one of those.

I wrote a new blog post about what actually helps when toddlers are having a hard time and suddenly everyone has an opinion.

No parenting robot. No perfect answers. Just real life.

New blog post on the Little Lessons Media site.
Every parent knows the moment after a fall or bump when your child looks at you first, trying to figure out how big the situation really is. In our house, Michael and I respond very differently—and it shows in how our boys react.
This week I’m sharing why our response as adults matters more than the injury itself and how these moments help shape emotional regulation in young kids.

What I’ve learned in three and a half years of parenting boys: kids look to us when they get hurt. Our reaction shapes how they bounce back and build resilience.

Over Thanksgiving, a close friend visited our family and something happened that every parent of a toddler will understand. I tried to have a normal adult conversation, and Matteo immediately needed my attention. It reminded me how challenging it can be to balance two conversations at once.

I’ve been reading more about toddler behavior lately, and what I learned matched exactly what played out in our living room. I wrote about the moment on the blog because I think many of you will relate.

I also shared a special shoutout to my friend Lisa Thee, whose book How to Reboot Your Career in 90 Days helped inspire the start of Little Lessons Media.

And a quick update: Matteo & Antonio: A Little Lesson in Disagreement is coming soon. A sneak peek is on the way.
