The new Dietary Guidelines for Americans are the first to call out the importance of the microbiome, AKA your gut! You can support your gut by choosing vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and other high-fiber foods.

Why it matters:
This network of tiny organisms in our bodies works together to keep us healthy by improving digestion and building a strong immune system to help protect us from diseases.

Tip: Try adding fermented foods like sauerkraut, kimchi, or kefir to your diet for some extra gut health-boosting benefits.

The new Dietary Guidelines for Americans are here and urge us to eat more protein-dense foods. Eat a wide variety of meat, seafood, eggs, beans, dairy, nuts, and seeds each day.

Why it matters:
Protein supports tissue repair, muscle growth, metabolism, and overall wellness. It can play an especially important role across all life stages, from growing youth to pregnancy to maintaining strength as our bodies age.

Tip: Try replacing sour cream in recipes and dishes with plain, Greek yogurt for a high-protein, nutrient-dense substitute.

Brighten your meals by including a variety of vegetables and fruits. Fresh, frozen, or canned are all great choices! Look for whole produce, rather than juice, for more nutrients to support your health, like fiber.

Why it matters:
Fruits & veggies are packed full of vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants that support digestion, immune function, and long-term health.

Tip: Add color to your plate. Try to have at least four colors in your next meal, with half the plate being veggies and fruits!
