THOT OF THE DAY!

Today lets look at the second cervical vertebrae and how it helps us! it also is a very specially designed vertebra it has a bump or peg coming off the top center of the front that sticks up into the first vertebrae to hold it in place called a dens or the odontoid process. Its main function is to allow C1 to pivot back and forth up and down keeping C1 from pinching off the spinal cord which would cause instant prelibation and or death. And so C2 is called the Axis where C1 is called the Atlas. C2 holds C1 in place and controls your eyes, ears, head and neck muscles, movement of the skull, forward bending of the neck, feeling to face sinuses and tongue. Agin this is vital to keep C2 well aligned. Remember when your spine is in line you feel fine!!!!!!!!!!! call 468 2221

In our spine the very top first vertebrae is just under the skull is very mobile allowing you to turn fully right and left up and down. It looks a little like bowtie and is typically the vertebrae that is fractured in a hanging. It controls the blood supply to the head, the pituitary gland which controls your bodies hormones, the bones of your head and face, your inner ear and outer ear, the muscles of your head and face and your Sympathetic Nervous System which causes you to react to fear to run or stay and fight, but it does more than that your Sympathic's control all your muscle functions as opposed to the Parasympathetics which control all your automatic functions such as (when did you tell your heart to beat or digest your food). Lets talk about the Pineal Gland. How many of you know what it even does? The pineal gland regulates daily body rhythms. It is photosensitive and receives its signals from the retinohypothalamic tract. It follows the circadian rhythms set by the suprachiasmatic nucleus of the hypothalamus. Wow what did I just say? The pineal gland acts like a 3rd eye and is used far more by those that are deaf of blind sensing their surroundings warning them of danger. But for all of us you heard digestion starts in the mouth it tags food before we put in our mouth and produces the digest enzymes so yes digestion does start in your mouth. Do you know what the different parts of the brain control? Well the frontal lobe is involved in your Thinking processes, speaking, memory and your ability to move. The Parietal lobe on the top of your head controls your languages and touch, the occipital lobe on the upper back of head controls vision and color perception, the Cerebellum the lower part of the back of your head controls balance and coordination, the temporal lobes on each side of your head controls your hearing learning and feelings and finally the brainstem controls breathing, heart rate and body temperature.
