01/14/2026

Harold Lloyd Leach, 94, beloved father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to so many, departed this world on January 13, 2026, to meet his Lord and Savior and reunite with his one true love, wife Dorothy.

Harold was the devoted son of the late George Guy and Gladys (O’Briant) Leach. He was born in the early hours of September 10, 1931, on a farm near Mayville, Michigan. One of eight siblings, he was raised in Mayville and Vassar as part of a large loving family. Growing up during the Great Depression, Harold was no stranger to hard work and, from an early age, demonstrated a strong work ethic. While in high school, his first paid job was operating the soda fountain at Gilchrist Drug Store in Vassar. Harold graduated from Mayville High School in 1947 at the age of sixteen. He then began pursuing a career in the supermarket business, starting out as a grocery cashier for A&P. In time, he was promoted to a supervisor and began traveling to various A&P supermarkets in Michigan, monitoring meat and produce departments. Soon after, Harold chose to receive training in meat cutting, which served him well with future career endeavors.

Harold met the love of his life, Dorothy Lou Chatters, at a community dance. Shortly after, Harold left to proudly serve two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was assigned to the 7th Army Headquarters Message Center in Stuttgart, Germany where he processed classified messages up to and including top secret. Countless letters were exchanged with Dorothy during Harold’s time away. Upon returning home, Harold and Dorothy were united in marriage on June 25, 1955. In 1966, Harold and Dorothy moved their family from Millington, MI to Caseville, MI to become co-owners of the Caseville IGA Foodliner. They valued this close-knit community, where they lovingly raised their four children. Harold and Dorothy built a wonderful life together. They were exceptional examples of caring and committed love. Over the years, they were blessed with many adventures. Trips to Michigan’s upper peninsula, Hawaii, the East Coast and Caribbean cruises were amongst their favorites.

Harold valued his family deeply. He shared an unbreakable bond with his loved ones and made each one feel special and appreciated. He taught by example the importance of living with integrity and a generous spirit, and blessed his family with the greatest pancakes, bean soup, peanut brittle, and fudge — and, most especially, his unforgettable “bear hugs”. Harold taught everyone how to play euchre, his favorite card game. He was a force to be reckoned with during a euchre game! Harold’s family will never forget the sound of his voice saying, “Get your children off the street!” and “Don’t send a boy to do a man’s job!”, as he slapped down a winning card. Harold also instilled in his family a love for nature. He can be credited with beginning the long-standing family tradition of camping at Sawmill Point on the back waters of the Au Sable River. Many Sawmill Point fish fries have been enjoyed and memories made that will live on in family stories for years to come!

Harold was passionate about his hobbies and interests, especially his love of the out-of-doors. He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, gardening, feeding “his” birds, taking daily walks and tinkering in his “fully equipped” garage. Harold could fix or fabricate about anything! Harold was most passionate about deer hunting, having traveled to deer camp in Bergland, MI in the upper peninsula for almost five decades. Hunting buddies gave him the nickname “Ridge Runner” because of his ability to track and stalk big bucks. Harold also found pleasure in the simple things in life such as sitting on his front porch watching nature, sipping on a “cold one” and listening to instrumental music, especially songs from the 40’s and 50’s. We can still hear him say, “It doesn’t get any better than this!”

Harold was a devoted member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Pigeon, MI and took great pleasure in serving as a greeter each Sunday. He found a home among the faithful friends he met there and strived to be a model of Christ’s servant love. Harold also enjoyed volunteering for Helping Hands Resale & Thrift Store in Caseville, being sure to stop and break down their cardboard boxes while out on his daily walk.

Surviving to celebrate Harold’s life and cherish his memory are his children, Greg Leach, Sherry (Brian) Watts, Kelly (TL) Bushey, and Scott Leach; grandchildren, Alan (Casey) Leach, Nathaniel (Katie) Watts, Alexander (Haley Duvall) Watts, Jed (Rebecca) Bushey, Jake (Megan) Bushey, Austin Leach, Wyatt Leach and Waylen Leach; great-grandchildren, Isaiah Watts, Eliza Watts, Josiah Watts, Elijah Bushey, Claire Bushey and Emmett Bushey; sister, Nancy Major, sisters-in-law, Colleen Davis, Mary Leach, Muriel Mohr and Doris Meier; “daughters”, Colleen (Col) Poisson and Tricia Harder and many dear nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, parents, George Guy and Gladys Leach, and parents-in-law, Oliver and Irene Chatters; siblings, Byron Leach, Willard Leach and wife Betty, Dorothy and husband William (Bud) Pine, Clarice and husband William (Bill) Fox, LaVerne (Vern) Leach, Guy Leach, and Arnold Leach and wife Janice; siblings-in-law, Aubrey (Aub) and Annie Chatters, Arthur (Gene) and Sally Chatters, Howard Davis, Ralph and Margaret Koch, Gerald (Jerry) Major, Kurt Meier, Henry (Hank) Mohr, and Norma and John Rozinski.

Harold’s family will receive family and friends on Monday, January 19th from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Ransford Funeral Home - Pigeon, 7356 Michigan Avenue, Pigeon and one hour prior to Harold’s memorial service. Harold’s memorial service with take place on Tuesday, January 20th at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 7899 Crescent Beach Road, Pigeon, with Pastor Christopher Suggitt officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow Harold’s service at Caseville Township Cemetery. A luncheon will be served at Harold’s church immediately following.

Harold’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to A&D Hospice and Country Gardens Assisted Living, Pigeon for the loving care, guidance and support they provided during Harold’s time with them. In lieu of flowers, for those wishing, memorial contributions may be made in Harold’s honor to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

12/28/2025

Delmar Grant Gunden passed suddenly on Friday, December 26, 2025, at the age of 72, while visiting family in Rapid River, Michigan.

Born in Pigeon, Michigan on October 2, 1953, son of Delmar and Magdalene Gunden, Grant graduated from Laker High School in 1971 and attended Goshen College in Indiana. Grant was an extremely hard worker, both in his career and his hobbies. He never shied away from using a little elbow grease. He started Cloverland Egg in 1977 and merged with Farm Crest Foods in 1984, where he worked until retirement 2019.

Grant's larger than life personality cannot simply be summed up in just a few words. For those who knew him, he was a very unique, strong, and resilient individual with many interests, hobbies, passions, and life experiences.

He also loved learning and trying new things, which led him from hobby to hobby. Whether it be building a cabin on an island, taking up beekeeping, teaching his children how to sail a Sunfish, or figuring out how to put a window in - the hobbies were endless

Grant was gregarious and outgoing by nature. He loved people and he never ever forgot a face. Whether he was visiting Florida, Detroit, or Massachusetts - he often ran into people he knew. You didn't need to be more than an acquaintance to be greeted with enthusiasm. He could talk to anyone. He loved learning from others through long conversations and often shared these stories with friends and family.

He enjoyed a good laugh and had a playful spirit. Perhaps one of his biggest sources of joy and laughter, were his grandchildren. He shared many stories laced with chuckles about the girls and loved spending time with them.

Grant's immense love of music wove its way into everything. He spent countless hours listening to and sharing his very eclectic taste in music with friends and family, often at top volume. He appreciated his sound systems more than your average person. He had a great ear for music, and finding a song he loved ignited contagious excitement. His eventual discovery of YouTube led to many nights down a rabbit hole sharing song links with his children. The bonds formed over music will never be forgotten, and his memories will live on in many songs.

Grant also loved nature and had a profound intrigue and appreciation for it. He loved spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and too many things to list. He loved watching nature shows and learning about earth and animals. He was always pointing out specific birds and their names, tree types, animals and more to his children. He saw and appreciated beauty in sunsets, the change in leaves, and just a simple day, driving down a road he'd been on 1,000 times, just looking at the sky saying, "boy isn't that pretty?"

Grant is survived by his daughter, Bridget; his son, Andrew (Monica); his grandchildren, Norma and Ada, and his siblings, Dawn (Jack), Kayeleen (Rick), John (Margaret) and Tami (Brad).

A funeral service for Grant will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at Ransford Funeral Home – Pigeon, 7356 W. Michigan Ave, Pigeon, MI, Pastor Ryan Badgerow Presiding. Visitation will take place from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 30, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday. Louis “Lou” Colletta, 90, of Pigeon passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025, in Alexandria, Virginia with his family by his side. Lou was born on January 24, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Bartolomeo and Josephine (Culmone) Colletta and attended Cass Technical High School in Detroit where he discovered his gift for technical drawing and mechanical design. Growing up, Lou was raised all over the east side of Detroit; his mother loved to buy and sell houses, moving every eighteen months or so. When he was seventeen, Lou enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country during the Korean conflict, putting his technical skills to work on the military’s planes. He was stationed at Selfridge Air Base following his service in Korea until his honorable discharge in 1956.

Lou met Dorothy Pobanz in the fall of 1955 and the couple married on February 4, 1956, sharing over 68 years together until her passing on November 10, 2024. He continued developing his technical skills as part of an apprenticeship program with the Ford Motor Company, becoming a journeyman and working in the skilled trades until his retirement in 1994. Lou became very active in Lake Township after his retirement, working on the Planning Commission and helping develop the township’s master plan. He had a passion for woodworking and could fix anything, making sure everyone in the family never needed to rely on a repairperson. Lou embraced every hobby he ever came across, taking up motorcycling (much to the chagrin of his doctor), painting Christmas themes on his home’s picture window, and maintaining a CB radio antenna that connected him with countless people throughout the community.

Lou is survived by his children, Louis of Syracuse, NY, Marge (John Zott) of Alexandria, VA, and Jack (Katie) of Winter Garden, FL; grandchildren, Christopher, Stephen (Nicki), Kassie (Brian), Adam, and Evan; great-grandchildren Olivia and Rhea; sister-in-law Shirley Racioppa of Grand Prairie, TX; and brother-in-law Gerald (Sandy) Pobanz of Port Austin.

In accordance with Lou’s wishes, cremation is to take place, with a celebration of his life planned for the early summer of 2026. In lieu of flowers donations to the Michigan Huron County Democratic Party, or the Huron County Nature Center.

Our Story

The Champagne Funeral Chapel was founded in 1975 by John Champagne in Elkton, Michigan when he purchased the funeral business from James Colgan which had been in operation at the same location in Elkton since 1960. In 1984 a second location in Caseville was added when the historic Crawford House was renovated into a funeral home. Through hard work and his generous spirit, he grew the business to become the largest in Huron County. In 2004 James Childs bought the funeral home in Caseville and together they continued improving the business. In 2017 Childs purchased the Elkton location from Champagne and also purchased the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home in Pigeon, merging all three funeral homes into one business housed in a newly constructed funeral home in Pigeon which opened in 2019, closing all three of the old buildings. The new spacious and modern building stands ready to serve the community well into the future. The Champagne Funeral Chapel endeavors to be helpful to the community, to provide fine facilities, to be fair and skilled in its practice of the profession, to be accessible to everyone, and to be a good neighbor and corporate citizen. The funeral home’s motto is “Modern Traditions;” funeral traditions are steeped in ritual and time honored customs. We wish to honor, respect, and perpetuate those customs, but also make adaptations to ensure they are relevant and meaningful to our customers. If we can successfully deliver on these claims, then we will be able to honor the lives of those who have died and ease the burden on those who mourn.
