Gratitude (Part 2)

As humans we are not hardwired to be grateful - it just doesn't come naturally.

It is so much easier to grumble and complain - specially on the times that we are currently living were an increasing amount of the information that we are receiving just focuses on the negative aspect of our environment and life.

We focus on the partner that doesn't understand us.

We focus on the bad traffic that is on our way to work

We focus on the lack of money in our bank account

or a hundred different things

Instead of beign grateful for ...

That partner that is with us despite the adversities that we have gone through

Living in a modern society were a multiple hours of journey can be transitioned in a couple of minutes

Having the ability to obtain income were many are unable or extremely limited to do it.

Live a life were the focus is in the the things that you have instead of the ones that you are lacking.

Believe me that I know it is sometimes not easy to do, having a daily gratefulness practice can change your life by...

Tapping into the beauty of the world around you

Changing your focus from lack into abundance

Giving you inner peace

Changing the perspective on a problem that you have

To Everyone;

You are the creator
of your own garden.

Plant kindness and compassion

Water with love and gratitude.

And you will enjoy beauty
all the days of your life.

Detoxification (Part 2)

You are a detoxifier!!

Your body is constantly detoxifying through your main emunctories (AKA - Organs of elimination).

The problem is when they are overburden by our daily actions like: not sleeping well, not drinking enough fluid, lacking in fiber, eating nutrient depleted foods.

That is when we can get in a pickle.

Sadly we are living in a toxic world at the moment. There are thousands of chemicals approve by different governmental entities that can have an effect in your physiology and you don't event know it.

These are your main organs of elimination and what you need to do to provide some support to them:

Colon: Fiber and fermented foods.

Lungs: Work on that deep breathing.

Liver: Eating a variety of vegetables (you need certain nutrients to help this big detoxifier)

Kidneys: Increase your water intake.

Lymph (I would call this the most ignore organ system, but that's just me): water, movement. Movement will help the lymph flow in your body.

I just wanted to re-introduce myself for those of you that are new following me.

My name is Dr. Santiago Nevarez and I am a Naturopathic Doctor and Licensed Acupuncturist. This means that I went to a 5 year medical school program to learn how to approach health and disease from a completely different perspective.

Through my clinical training I have learned how to see the body’s physiological function as an integrated whole. Each system of the body works in conjunction to manifest health, and when one of these systems becomes imbalanced, it can present in many different ways depending on the individual. So I approach every patient from their own individual perspectives. My approach helps me bridge the worlds of mind, body, and spirit through a detailed and systematic model of diagnosis and treatment.

In summary, I work to optimize your health and help you meet your goals through my extensive training in a number of medical systems oriented toward restoring health, preventing disease, and promoting wellness. If you or a loved one is struggling through your health challenges connect with me so that I can hear your story and see if there is a way that I can serve you.

Detoxification ( Part 1)

The topic of the week this time is Detoxification. What is it and what you can do in your daily lives to improve it.

There is a lot of misinformation out there about what detoxifying is and what is not

First of all you need to understand that our bodies are constantly detoxifying (The proper scientific term is Deconjugation but everyone kind of knows what detoxifying is) through our main organs of detoxifications (In traditional medicine these organs are known as emunctories) which include: lungs, liver, intestine and kidneys.

There are many "fast detox programs" out there that include 5 days juice cleanses or do this gallbladder flush or the master cleanse and many others that keep popping up which makes it really difficult to track.

My official stance about detoxification is that detox is not an isolated event done in a couple of days, but a daily lifestyle practice that needs to be optimize as much as possible. I do recommend detoxification programs, but it is more from an educational aspect rather than a cleansing the body from all toxins in a week aspect.

Hydration (Part 3)

8 glasses of water a day its just a more or less acurate description.

Some people need more and some less.

So do not get frustrated or try to swallow an excessive amount of water before going to bed juist to accomplish your goal.

Most individuals will be fine if they become more aware of when they are thirsty and drink enough water for their mouths to not feel dry.

Here are some simple strategies to keep your hydration up throughout the day:

1) Keep multiple water containers around (Glass or stainless steel are my particular preference): the more you have an easily obtainable source of water the more you are bound to drink it.

2) 1-to-1 challenge: Every time you drink a soda, coffee or juice, immediately afterwards drink some water.

3) Make your water taste different: you will be surprised what a slice of lemon or some mint leaves could do to change the taste of your water so that you drink more of it.

4) Know your volume: know how many ounzes you are taking by knowing how many are in your bottles, it's always good to measure results.

Hydration (Part 2)

Many of the problems that come with hydration (or I guess the lack of hydration. Is that there are many small symptoms throughout our day that we usually do not associate with the need of water.

Of course hydration is not the only cause of all the symptoms that I am mentioning below, but it is a good first step to start working with.

By increasing your consumption of water you decrease the crave for other fluids like sodas and juices.

The biggest recommendation that I can give is to be in tune with your body and listen to it. Since the language of the body are the symptoms that you get.

Why did I choose to learn this different way to heal.

I chose this path because I have seen family and friends suffering through chronic diseases which caused them to be frustrated and confused because they believed that there was nothing else they could do to improve their health. I wanted to obtain the necessary knowledge and tools so that I could help my loved ones on how to get rid of that frustration and confusion that is present when you feel that there is nothing more you can do to improve your health.

My name is Dr. Santiago Nevarez, ND, LAc (Naturopathic Doctor and Licensed Acupuncturist) and this means that I went to a 5 year medical degree to learn how to treat health and disease from a different perspective. Through my clinical training in Naturopathic medicine, I have learned how to see the body’s physiological function as an integrated whole. Each system of the body works in conjunction to manifest health, and when one of these systems becomes imbalanced, it can present in many different ways depending on the individual. Chinese medicine taught me that there is more to the body than its apparent material physiology, which helps me acknowledge and remain open to the fact that medicine still has much to learn about the body, both in terms of its structure and function. Chinese medicine helps me bridge the worlds of mind, body, and spirit through a detailed and systematic model of diagnosis and treatment.

In summary, I work to optimize your health and help you meet your goals through my extensive training in a number of medical systems oriented toward restoring health, preventing disease, and promoting wellness.
