Mrs. Sandra Etta Corbin Pugh was born November 22, 1953, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to the late Anner Robinson Corbin and William Corbin, Sr. She graduated from Merrill High School and later earned a degree in Home Economics from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

On March 10, 1979, Sandra married Edward Pugh. Together, they built a life grounded in love, faith, service, and an unwavering commitment to family.

She was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who found her greatest joy in being surrounded by family. A woman of many talents, Sandra worked in several capacities throughout her life, including teaching Home Economics, serving at Brown Funeral Home, and working in the family cleaners, where her strong work ethic and dependability were evident.

As a mother, Sandra faithfully prepared weekly dinner menus, ensuring each meal was nutritious and teaching her children not only how to cook, but how to care for their families through love and intention.

Sandra was “that person” - a mother to numerous children she did not give birth to; yet she loved, nurtured, and provided for as her own. Her heart had room for anyone in need of care, guidance, or a safe place to belong.

Sandra served her church and community as a 4-H club leader, held several positions at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, and led a Girl Scout troop, always ready to help and guide others.

Known for her joyful personality, Sandra enjoyed the simple things in life. She was an avid watermelon collector, loved thrift shopping, and found pleasure in jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, and solitaire. She was always busy, always giving.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 46 years, Edward Pugh; her children: Stacy Davis Jones of Nashville, TN; Sonja Janese Jefferson of Pine Bluff, AR; Shevaun Pugh (Moses) Shorter of Arlington, TN; and Stevon Rayshawn Pugh of Pine Bluff, AR; her grandchildren: Symone Jones, ShaRod Hunter, Savion D. Treadwell, Shamar J. Browning, KeAuri Pugh, Kevon Pugh, Stanton Shorter, and Jasiah Pugh; and her great-grandchildren: Spencer Jones, Shi Chapman-Jones, and Sehlani Janese Marie Treadwell.

She is also survived by her siblings: Edna Faye Higgins, Patricia Ellington Logan, Wilbur Corbin, and Hubert Corbin, William Corbin, Jr. along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and friends who were blessed by her life and love.

Mr. Wayne Morris Stewart, lovingly known as “Stew,” was born on June 2, 1951, in Muskegon, Michigan to the late Leonard and Ozella Stewart. He departed this world peacefully at his home on January 10, 2025, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. His passing marked the close of a life defined not by noise or spectacle, but by depth, discipline, faith, and a quiet, enduring strength.

Wayne was raised in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, by his aunt and uncle, Dred Johnson and Ethel Paschal-Johnson (Doles), who lovingly shaped his foundation and values. He was baptized into the Christian faith at the age of 12, beginning a lifelong journey of devotion, service, and reverence for God that would remain central to his identity.

Wayne graduated from Townsend Park High School in 1969. He went on to attend the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where he earned his degree in Psychology in 1974. Knowledge mattered deeply to Wayne, not for recognition, but as a way of living thoughtfully, compassionately, and with intention.

After completing his education, Wayne began a long and distinguished career with Arkansas Power and Light Company (now Entergy). He worked as an Engineering Associate for over 25 years, approaching his profession with precision, pride, and an unwavering sense of responsibility. He believed in the dignity of work and the quiet satisfaction that comes from consistency and integrity. Wayne retired in 2011, leaving behind a legacy of reliability, humility, and excellence.

At the very core of Wayne’s life was his faith in God. He was an active and devoted member of New Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where he was ordained as a deacon and served faithfully. Earlier in life, he also worshipped at First Baptist Church in Crossett, Arkansas, where he was a member of the trustee board. Wayne was a student of God’s Word, finding wisdom, comfort, and direction in scripture. His faith was not merely spoken, it was lived. It shaped his patience, steadied his spirit, and guided the way he treated others.

Wayne lived with discipline and balance. An avid runner, he valued perseverance, endurance, and self-care not as vanity, but as stewardship of the body God had given him. He delighted in time spent with family and friends, treasuring shared moments, meaningful conversation, and quiet laughter. He was a man who showed up—dependable, present, and steady.

His tenderness extended beyond people to all living things. Wayne was an animal lover, particularly fond of dogs and cats, and his affection for them revealed the gentleness beneath his composed exterior. In these quiet affections, one could see the fullness of his heart.

Above all else, Wayne cherished his family. He is survived by one son, Edwin Stewart (Kansas City, MO), and two daughters, Marquita Pridgeon (Dallas, TX) and Adrianna Carr (Frisco, Texas). He leaves a living legacy in his five grandchildren: Anecia Stewart, Edwin Stewart Jr., Desye Stewart, Jazlyn Jordan, and Rian Carr—and six great-grandchildren, each a continuation of the love, values, and strength he poured into the generations that follow him. He is also survived by a host of extended family members, cherished friends, and all whose lives were made richer by knowing him.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Ozella Stewart; his beloved aunt and mother-figure, Ethel B. Paschal; his brothers, O. L. Stewart, Dwight Stewart, and Johnny Stewart; and his niece, Nina Stewart. Their memories live in his heart, and now he rests reunited with them in eternal peace.

Wayne Morris Stewart was a man of substance, measured in his words, steadfast in his convictions, and generous in his love. He lived without excess yet lacked nothing; he spoke softly yet left an indelible impression. His life reminds us that greatness is often quiet, faith is steady, and love is most powerful when it is consistent.

Though he has completed his earthly journey, Wayne’s legacy endures in the lives he shaped, the faith he modeled, and the family he loved so deeply. His memory will not fade with time; it will remain, guiding and grounding those who carry his name and his spirit forward.

It’s completely normal to miss someone dearly, and taking steps to remember them can help navigate those feelings. How do you usually cope with such feelings?

01/06/2026

Mrs. Shirley Eugene Wright was born in Wabbaseka, Arkansas, the ninth of fifteen children born to George Wesley Duncan and Ludie Ruby Johnson Duncan. From the very beginning, Shirley possessed a spirit that could never be dimmed—strong-willed, creative, stylish, and full of life.

She graduated from St. Peter’s High School in 1953, where academics proudly took second place to her true loves: basketball and dancing. Shirley was known far and wide for her devotion to the game—so much so that everyone knew better than to schedule an emergency during a basketball game, because survival was questionable if you interrupted her watching her game.

In 1953, Shirley met the love of her life, Will R. Wright Jr., and by 1954 they married beginning a partnership that would shape the rest of her life. Their journey began in Flint, Michigan, before they settled in Chicago, Illinois, where they would spend the next 40 years building a life, a family, and a legacy. Together, they welcomed seven children. Although Will dreamed of having twelve children, Shirley was quick to put that idea to rest. Much to Will’s dismay, when the youngest was still a toddler, Shirley entered the workforce, beginning her career at the Cook County Department of Public Aid.

After several years of dedicated service, Shirley transitioned to the Chicago Public School System, where she worked faithfully until retirement. Even retirement could not slow her down. After relocating to Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Shirley realized she was not yet ready to sit still and returned to work at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where she remained until retiring for good.

A woman of faith, Shirley joined Independence Seventh-day Adventist Church in 1959, where she was an active member until 1996. Her faith guided her life, her service, and her love for others.

Shirley Wright was the ultimate fashion plate—super creative, outgoing, energetic, and always impeccably put together. Each morning, she rose early to comb six heads of hair, all adorned with matching barrettes and ribbons, before heading off to work, ensuring her shoes and purse were perfectly coordinated. Evan’s and Madison’s Department Stores were longtime beneficiaries of her impeccable taste. Though she was a world-class shopper, Shirley was also a gifted seamstress, creating countless matching outfits for her six daughters—typically dividing them into “the big kids” and “the little kids,” each group dressed alike.

She had a deep love for beauty and home, constantly finding ways to enhance her surroundings. Shirley was also an exceptional cook who never disappointed. Her family fondly remembers liver and onions, smothered chicken, hearty pot roast, perch, whiting, and her irresistible sweets—all prepared with love.

Unofficially, Shirley was in charge of the family’s weddings, a role she assumed naturally and without pay. If you found yourself helping, it was simply because she had already decided where you belonged. Her children learned early that what was theirs often became hers—diplomas immediately passed to her after graduation, wedding dresses, prom gowns, and centerpieces gathered up and saved for her next creative endeavor.

Shirley valued her relationships deeply, but none were more legendary than the one she shared with her sisters. Together with Dorothy and Mary Lou, they became known by many names—the Three Musketeers, the Speed Demons, or the Road Runners—three inseparable forces who moved through life with laughter, mischief, and an unbreakable bond. They thought nothing of jumping in the car for a “quick” trip to Detroit or Arkansas. And when Shirley said quick, she meant quick. Their shared lead foot made sure of that—a trait many in the family proudly inherited.

Shirley spent many joyful years in Pine Bluff with her beloved husband until his passing, enjoying time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and treasured friends. Her final days were spent in Huntsville, Alabama, in the home of her daughter, where she attended an adult day center. There, she continued doing what she loved most—socializing, staying active, and even catching the eye of one of the gentlemen in attendance.

Shirley Eugene Wright was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 67 years, Will R. Wright Jr.; her parents, George Wesley Duncan and Ludie Ruby Johnson Duncan; and thirteen beloved siblings.

She leaves to cherish in her memory seven children: Kenneth Wright (Diane), Carol Boyd, Iva Anita Williams, Verneice Wright, Phyllis France (Demetrius), Brenda Wright-Love, and Sharon Whittaker; eight grandsons—Siwatu, Kafele(Shayla), Julian, Cornelius Jr., Khamisi(Chelsea), Malcolm, Dwight, and Maurice; five granddaughters—Folyan(Justice), Lauren, Ashlee(Akeem), Sidni( Marquise), and Nya, one honorary granddaughter and great-granddaughter - Nonnie and Nkanyezi; twenty great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will forever hold her love, laughter, lessons, and legacy in their hearts.

Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 9. 2026, at Northside Seventh Day Adventist Church Pine Bluff, AR by Pastor Adrian Valcin. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery Pine Bluff, AR by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff, AR. Her body will lie in-state from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
