With your support, we are putting down roots here and hope to grow and thrive as part of this community. As a child Dr. Billuni always dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. He took his first step toward achieving that dream at the age of fourteen, when he began volunteering at a veterinary hospital near his home. in Biology from University of California, San Diego in 1996 and became a Registered Veterinary Technician in 2000. After many years working in animal hospitals and shelters he attended Ross University, School of Veterinary Medicine and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2008. Dr. Billuni worked as an Emergency Veterinarian in Southern California for several years before relocating to Amador County. The Billuni family moved to Amador County to live a rural lifestyle in a welcoming and family-friendly community. He lives near Upper Ridge Veterinary Care with his wife, two children, two dogs, one cat, one horse, one donkey, and a turtle. Please read the Press Release from Amador County Public Health

There was a feral kitten that tested positive for Rabies in the unincorporated area of Pioneer. The kitten had come into contact with a skunk.

This is a reminder that rabies in wildlife continue to pose a risk to pets and people.

If exposed to potentially rabid wildlife, pets should get a booster rabies shot within 48 hours. Indoor animals should also receive rabies vaccinations, as bats can be discovered by pets in the home.

More information in regards to rabies can be found on the Amador County Animal Control Website: https://www.amadorcounty.gov/departments/animal-control/rabies-information

We are so appreciative of kind people who bring us Western Pond Turtles because they are disappearing due to habitat loss and competition from invasive species like pet slider turtles. Dr. Kyle Billuni treated this turtle and gets as excited as we do about returning them to the wild. He explained that in his practice in Southern California they never saw them. This turtle was removed from the road, but had punctures in his shell that are consistent with a dog bite. With antibiotic injections and keeping the wound clean and treated with topical antibiotic, this turtle will be headed back out to the wild. These turtles can live 50 to 70 years and they are our only native fresh water turtle in California. We appreciate everyone who calls about them and sets them on their way out of the roads. They do spend time out of the water as they travel to find a mate and suitable habitat. THANK YOU for your kindness to our native wildlife!
