Hi everyone. This isn't going to be easy for me to say. It is with great sadness that I have to announce the permanent closure of Abundant Life Well-Being in Lakeside.

With our current and continuing economic situation, felt by all…
High overhead and rising cost of classes to maintain my varied licenses.
Lack of yearly visitors, very slow winter months.
With my body’s worsening ability to handle the elevation,
I knew I needed to get off of the mountain, but I thought I could make it another summer. However, situations have sped up the timeline. The first week of March will be my last week of treatments.

I’ll be removing things to take with me in my return to Hawaii. But the cost of every aspect of shipping/mailing things back to the island has tripled to quadrupled since I left the island in 2018. I am reducing down to what will fit in a 6x8x7 box (or down to just mailing maybe 6-10 boxes if I am able to find new homes for all of the furniture, larger equipment and much of the décor).

Now I must I ask for your help and support over this next few weeks, as I start to break things down to vacate the space by the end of March. I need to have the car to LA for shipping before mid-April, so it needs to move fast while my breathing keeps slowing me down.

A couple of current clients have had me label items (ie- the thin buddha statue, some of the larger stones supporting the shoji screens, a meditation cushion, 1 or both of the towel warmers) to buy if the 2 therapists who were considering taking over the space as a turnkey office didn’t come through. I learned last night that one didn’t feel able to work without soundproof rooms and the other, who had been most excited of the two but thrown by the rent being raised, didn’t respond by my Sunday night deadline for feedback.

As I work to remove things I know I’ll take with me in case I continue to do some acupuncture work in a spa or someone’s shared clinic, everything else will be up for sale. In addition to the luxurious padded desk/lobby chairs, art, 4 filing cabinets, small refrig/freezer, the lg bookcase with glass doors, and varied folding wood bookcases/shelf units, there is a lot that is out of sight (new sheet sets, flannel sheet sets, 2 portable massage tables in addition to the electric salon style table, essential oils collection, healing stone “rollers” for massage, a LOT of shoji screens! LOL!, massage oils, … down to desk and cleaning supplies).

Beyond that I have some things from the house that are for sale. Some smaller items I can bring to the office (ie- 3 like-new heavy-weight jackets, watches and jewelry, exercise/self-treatment equipment). Some items are too large for me to bring to the office: a treadmill (that can be folded for storage), an inversion table (that can be folded for storage) and an indoor exercise bike (with pulleys for row action as well as biking).

For the next couple of weeks I’m asking for folks who are interested in looking to buy items to call/text to set a time to meet. Once I’ve gotten to-go items boxed, it will be a FIRE SALE situation – but as I’m really having trouble with breath and energy the last couple of months, I’m hoping the sales can be done mostly by appt to have most sold before that point. Remaining items will be assessed for either consignment, donation or to be shipped to HI. (ie- I know I could easily get a couple thousand for the electric table in HI, but also know it will eat up a chunk of the space in the U-box).

I made it 4 years, worked as hard as I could – too much since I had less time for self-care than any prior location. The economy was just too challenging, and the injuries and covid took their toll also. I stuck with it longer than I financially and health-wise should have.

I will miss you. I truly thank you. I’m heartbroken I didn’t get the additional years here as I’d planned when I opened and invested into all of the furniture and equipment to make this the “healing space” experience I wanted for my clients.

How can you
Reduce blood pressure?
Stimulate the Vagus nerve to calm a parasympathetic nervous system that is stuck on overdrive?
Transform trauma or anxiety or stress or withdrawal into peace?
Reduce stress cortisol hormones to enable weight-loss goals?

Auricular acupuncture takes you from type-A to zen in 30 minutes.

Per medical studies:
- In He, etal's study, Ear acupuncture has been proven to activate the VN
- In another study, results showed a decrease in blood pressure and heart rate, which showed activation of parasympathetic nerves
- Auricular acupuncture’s effect on the VN was examined in the clinical study done on basketball athletes. They found that heart rate decreased after 30-60 minutes after exercise with the use of auricular acupuncture
- The results showed a decrease in blood pressure and heart rate, which showed activation of parasympathetic nerves. He, et al., also reported in their findings that the use of the Heart point in ear acupuncture regulates the heart, as healthy volunteers who received manual ear acupuncture at the heart point had a decrease in heart rate.

It doesn't have to wait for special holidays.
Be they a big part of your life, of your past or a stranger who held a door for your or gave you a healing word -
Tell people how much they make a difference - every day.

Everyone is struggling with challenges, and many mask it well from the public and even from friends/family - and try to mask it from themselves.

Feeling appreciated can turn someone's day/week/year around - and then that happy recipient is more likely to show appreciation for others.

Remember: Kindness & Shared Appreciation are contagious.

Traditional Oriental Medicine (TOM) includes much more than just acupuncture.

How do I differ from many other acupuncturists?
1) I came into TCM acupuncture/herbal studies from a background as a teacher with additional psychology focus/studies, a Reiki Master and a massage therapist. All of these provide a strong base for the TOM holistic diagnostic/treatment and the ability to explain self-care suggestions.

2) My OM school's 4yr Master of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine degree required expansive courses beyond just the basics of acupuncture, including psychology, internal martial arts, gynecology/OB, western meds/exams, herbal and nutritional medicine diagnostic/formulations/prescription. Not all states require the expansive studies or boards, so you may want to check NCCAOM's "find a practitioner" information to learn more about acupuncturists in your home area.

3) While many acupuncturists run multiple treatment rooms simultaneously, I typically schedule one client at a time (excepting Community Style, "Stress Buster Happy Hours" or specialized couple's/small group sessions). This is by deliberate choice to ensure I am able to give my clients full focus, to also be able to incorporate the varied TCM techniques (ie- TCM medical massage/acupressure, cupping, guided meditation, herbal/nutrition/moving-qigong/self-care education) as appropriate.

4) I teach my clients about the TOM nutrition and qigong/self-care techniques that can help them get faster and/or lifelong improvements. I've worked with and known practitioners who, with peers, openly state that they teach clients few to no self-care techniques to ensure clients need more treatments - calling that “good business”. I prefer seeing happy empowered clients who then may refer their friends/neighbors.

Of this chart of NCCAOM's list of therapies, I incorporate all but injections. I'm happy with the results of more traditional techniques, so traditional natural approaches, with the addition of much researched/proven modern electroacupuncture, microneedling and infrared/red-light/laser therapies, continue to be my focus.

(Go to nccaom.org to find acupuncturists and herbalists who have passed boards and maintained their licenses with continuing studies. You'll find I am a Diplomate of Oriental Medicine, which is the combination of Diplomate of Acupuncture plus Diplomate of Chinese Herbal Medicine, as well as meeting standards in Oriental Bodywork & Qigong.)

Wow! I didn’t know this survey existed until they called to tell me I’d been voted the #1 Acupuncturist in Show Low and Pinetop/Lakeside through the “Best of” Market Survey.

I don’t know who nominated me or who all voted for me, but I am deeply touched, humbled and grateful!

This is more than just an award — it’s a reminder of why I do what I do! Whether working as a primary through middle school through 10th grade math teacher or using natural medicine approaches with microneedling, sound-vibration therapy, massage, Reiki/hands-on-prayer-energy work, herbal-nutrition counseling, lifestyle & movement TCM coaching, guided meditation/hypnosis, NLP work or acupuncture and all of its varied needle & no-needle techniques - I’ve always been inspired since early years to believe my path is to use my God-given interests and gifts to help others.

A fellow teacher once referred to me as a “true Renaissance Woman”, with my wide variety of interests and love of learning. I’ve been blessed by this collection of studies and regional experiences, interactions with a wide variety of people/families over the years, and even my education from my variety of personal injuries, losses and traumatic events over the years. All have contributed to my compassion for others and to my ability to offer varied and integrated methods of help to those who come to my clinic seeking to feel more comfortable physically or emotionally, more balanced, more grounded, more rejuvenated, or just seeking to explore a new mind-body experience.

Thank you for the affirmation.
Thank you for supporting our small local businesses.
Thank you for “living aloha” & being kind to all you meet each day as we never know what challenges they may be quietly dealing with.
