Hi everyone. This isn't going to be easy for me to say. It is with great sadness that I have to announce the permanent closure of Abundant Life Well-Being in Lakeside.
With our current and continuing economic situation, felt by all…
High overhead and rising cost of classes to maintain my varied licenses.
Lack of yearly visitors, very slow winter months.
With my body’s worsening ability to handle the elevation,
I knew I needed to get off of the mountain, but I thought I could make it another summer. However, situations have sped up the timeline. The first week of March will be my last week of treatments.
I’ll be removing things to take with me in my return to Hawaii. But the cost of every aspect of shipping/mailing things back to the island has tripled to quadrupled since I left the island in 2018. I am reducing down to what will fit in a 6x8x7 box (or down to just mailing maybe 6-10 boxes if I am able to find new homes for all of the furniture, larger equipment and much of the décor).
Now I must I ask for your help and support over this next few weeks, as I start to break things down to vacate the space by the end of March. I need to have the car to LA for shipping before mid-April, so it needs to move fast while my breathing keeps slowing me down.
A couple of current clients have had me label items (ie- the thin buddha statue, some of the larger stones supporting the shoji screens, a meditation cushion, 1 or both of the towel warmers) to buy if the 2 therapists who were considering taking over the space as a turnkey office didn’t come through. I learned last night that one didn’t feel able to work without soundproof rooms and the other, who had been most excited of the two but thrown by the rent being raised, didn’t respond by my Sunday night deadline for feedback.
As I work to remove things I know I’ll take with me in case I continue to do some acupuncture work in a spa or someone’s shared clinic, everything else will be up for sale. In addition to the luxurious padded desk/lobby chairs, art, 4 filing cabinets, small refrig/freezer, the lg bookcase with glass doors, and varied folding wood bookcases/shelf units, there is a lot that is out of sight (new sheet sets, flannel sheet sets, 2 portable massage tables in addition to the electric salon style table, essential oils collection, healing stone “rollers” for massage, a LOT of shoji screens! LOL!, massage oils, … down to desk and cleaning supplies).
Beyond that I have some things from the house that are for sale. Some smaller items I can bring to the office (ie- 3 like-new heavy-weight jackets, watches and jewelry, exercise/self-treatment equipment). Some items are too large for me to bring to the office: a treadmill (that can be folded for storage), an inversion table (that can be folded for storage) and an indoor exercise bike (with pulleys for row action as well as biking).
For the next couple of weeks I’m asking for folks who are interested in looking to buy items to call/text to set a time to meet. Once I’ve gotten to-go items boxed, it will be a FIRE SALE situation – but as I’m really having trouble with breath and energy the last couple of months, I’m hoping the sales can be done mostly by appt to have most sold before that point. Remaining items will be assessed for either consignment, donation or to be shipped to HI. (ie- I know I could easily get a couple thousand for the electric table in HI, but also know it will eat up a chunk of the space in the U-box).
I made it 4 years, worked as hard as I could – too much since I had less time for self-care than any prior location. The economy was just too challenging, and the injuries and covid took their toll also. I stuck with it longer than I financially and health-wise should have.
I will miss you. I truly thank you. I’m heartbroken I didn’t get the additional years here as I’d planned when I opened and invested into all of the furniture and equipment to make this the “healing space” experience I wanted for my clients.
