❓What is “Myo”?

👅 Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy focuses on how the muscles of the mouth and face function and work together — especially the tongue!

✨ The tongue should:
• Rest on the roof of the mouth
• Support nasal breathing
• Swallow without pushing forward
• Help guide proper facial growth

💔 When the muscles of the mouth and face aren’t working correctly, you may see:

• Mouth breathing
• Snoring
• Crowded teeth
• Tongue thrust
• Speech sound issues
• Sleep concerns
•Feeding and Swallowing difficulties
• Orthodontic relapse

👃 Myo retrains these muscles through specific, evidence-based exercises so the mouth and airway function the way they were designed to. Myo therapy addresses the cause of the issue, not just the symptoms!

Today we’re spotlighting our owner and Speech-Language Pathologist— Laurie!

🌈 Laurie is the owner of Elevation Therapy, Speech-Language Pathologist and certified Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist. She loves working with individuals across the lifespan, from supporting early development to helping adults navigate recovery and independence.

Some fun facts about Laurie:

🏃🏻‍♀️ She is training for a half-marathon and Hyrox competition

👦🏼 The name Elevation Therapy was inspired by Elevation Worship. During her son's first year of life, his favorite song was "Graves into Gardens" and it holds a special place in their family.
