Don't forget to get straw for any outside pets! Very cold the next two nights with a windchill in the teens or less. NOT ALL ANIMALS ARE INSIDE PETS. For those that prefer or need to stay outside for whatever reason, give them a place to stay dry and keep warm out of the wind and weather. Please make sure the shelters are faced away from the wind, angled entrances to the shelter are best as they keep the wind out. The cold wind normally comes from the north so do not have the shelters facing that way. Shelters need to have four sides, 1 side has an entryway, roof and floor up off the ground so water can't get inside. The shelter needs to have straw inside at least 1/2-3/4 full. NO blankets, towels or hay as these all hold moisture. The shelter needs to be large enough for the animal to turn around inside. Local farmer coop stores and big box stores like lowes and tractor supply stores usually have straw for around $8 a bale. You will likely not need a full bale. Get several trash bags and store the rest for a needed refreshing as the winter goes along since it gets dragged out or compacted.
