Pipestem Volunteer Fire Department

Pipestem VFD was dispatched for a brush fire at 16:09 Friday April 3rd, in the Lovern area of Pipestem. Mutual aid was requested from Station 13 Summers County VFD and Station 101 Athens VFD. Multiple units from the West Virginia Division of Forestry were also dispatched. This fire encompassed approximately 10 - 15 acres and was moving very fast due to the amount of fuel on the ground. It took the crews approximately 8 hours to get the fire contained. We want to thank everyone for their assistance, without all of you this fire could have gotten much larger.

At the annual Christmas Dinner held last evening for members and their families, the department recognized several individuals for their exemplary service and achievements.

Ms. Teresa Mansfield was honored for twenty years of dedicated service to the department. Ms. Mansfield commenced her tenure as a firefighter and EMT and has served as the department secretary for several years, demonstrating unwavering commitment and professionalism.

Mr. Jimmy Keaton was recognized for thirty years of distinguished service. Mr. Keaton has served as assistant chief for many years and currently holds the position of department president. In addition to this recognition, Mr. Keaton was awarded a Lifetime Member Certificate in acknowledgment of his outstanding contributions.

Mr. Cody Keaton, who presently serves as captain, was awarded the Firefighter of the Year award for 2025, reflecting his exemplary performance and dedication to the department.

The department extends its sincere congratulations and appreciation to Teresa, Jimmy, and Cody for their invaluable service to the community. Their commitment and leadership continue to set a standard of excellence for all members. Congratulations to each one of them, and a big thanks for their service to our community.

We received our new to us, AMKUS battery operated rescue tools from Matheny Fire Equipment today. Many thanks to Bill Weiss for taking the time on his Saturday to deliver them.

We had a great time Tuesday for fire safety with the little guys at CASE WV Head Start in Hinton. Great bunch of youngsters. Special thanks to Junior Firefighter Hannah Bennett for donning the gear for the presentation and to Teresa Mansfield for taking the photos.
