Recognize the guy on the left from our last post? Yup, that’s AT hiker Brian Snyder of , the project to restore an abandoned camp at Delaware Water Gap to be a retreat center for at-risk youth. Brian swung by our headquarters location at recently with another leader to say hello to SiS founder Serena and crew. Excited to follow their important work—please follow and support with us.

Caught up with Brian “Bagheera” Snyder today, the thru hiker who is transforming an abandoned camp in NJ’s Delaware Water Gap into a outdoorsy haven for at-risk youth. The Notch just made a contribution to his GoFundMe and I invite you all to do same! Visit the link in his project page to support this unique project.

More about the project: Beyond Day Zero will be a year-round camp for at-risk youth, a guided hiking service, a hostel-shelter-resupply spot for thru-hikers of the Appalachian Trail, a retreat center for organizations and businesses that are working on social justice issues, and a center to assist with the conservation efforts for the Delaware Water Gap area and the trails Bagheera is currently hiking: the Pinhoti Trail, the Benton Mackaye Trail, and the Appalachian Trail.

Reentry - Day 0

This is the last post I will personally make on this page - but the community will continue, the camp will be started, and you'll all be welcome to come by. I thank you all for following along on this hiking journey of mine, and there are those whom I literally could not have completed this trek without. I am forever indebted, and you will have recognition within the camp.

The world is an amazing, beautiful, exhilarating, and frightening place - one which I know I will never fully understand as much as I would like to before I leave this life...and that's okay...it's been here a very long time, and I'm only here for a blink of it, so I don't pretend to know what it all really is - but I have learned a few things...

We need the world...the world does not need us. We need each other, or the world kills us faster. Nature is the greatest teacher, a master we can never best - only navigate. The kid in the top left could've had a better opportunity if he'd be enrolled in a better "school" to navigate.

The guy in the top right was looking back at the kid, cape flying behind him, ready to come to the rescue...thinking he knew what he was doing, fairly certain, and ready for whatever would come. At the bottom right, he found himself sitting in complete awe of all that had transpired...suddenly fairly unsure of what lie ahead and still taking in each individual moment. Bottom right is me typing this - in a sense right back where I started...a little bit older, weathered by the miles, so to speak...but I still have to remind myself of Sunny's advice: "Be patient, be humble, be kind...and be happy" because returning to "regular" society is incredibly difficult.

It remains true this time, except my debt is largely of a different kind - no longer to society, but to live and function within this society. Funny how that works out, but I'll leave you with this message I saw on .collective page: "Prisons don't disappear social problems, they disappear human beings." -

if you haven't seen me over the past year and change, or if you have some knowledge but still had no idea what I was actually doing...this is it...as in my photo map for this journey...I walked all of it, and have the pics to prove it - Google said so 🤷😎

There's too much to pack into one post, one caption, one video, one interview, or an answer to one question...and I intend on sharing it all, but this image hits me the hardest since I can go inside my mind, zoom into any area along this route, and relive it all ✨

347 days, 15 states, ~2,617 miles, elevation gain equivalent to hiking over 14 times, 10* pairs of footwear, average pack weight: 45-50 lbs, one ambulance ride to the hospital for hypothermia, one flipped canoe in the Shenandoah River, countless storms, and innumerable moments that I was unable to capture except in my memories...but we made it...and I say "we" because without the help and assistance from a wide variety of people along the way and in my life, I can't say I'd be sitting here smiling at this image now ☺️

and here's our certificate...still gotta frame it 😉🎓

Let's try this again...😩

347 days of - 295 days of

9 pairs of hiking shoes
2 pairs of camp shoes (only because I lost one of the first pair 😢)

Footwear is important, especially on the trails...and I tested out a wide variety of types - as you can see 🙃 - not always by choice, but by circumstance...but ultimately, the "best" are subjective...you have to find what works best for YOU

I definitely need the ankle support, and breathability is necessary for long distances...so , how about a Speedgoat Mid Breeze plz?! 🥹

does this mean I'm famous now?! 🤣

We made it, family...it's been such a wild ride to get up here, and I've checked this live cam more times than I care to admit 😅 but now I finally made it up here - the weather isn't too bad, so I enjoyed the climb up here...and just wow...I am blessed to be here in this moment...🤩🧡

Now, I just gotta get down the rest of this and finish off the rest of these astounding - only a few more days at most...see you soon!! 🧡🧡🧡

June 8, 2023 - 341 - 289 - It's been very wet, to say the least...but we're not going to let these mountains bring us down 🙏

The rain hasn't really stopped much, especially at the higher elevations...all of the trails are flooded, and it's been impossible to retain dry feet, or dry anything for that matter...but I've become fairly proficient in getting my tent set up in the rain 🥹

But it hasn't been all water-logged gloom...there's beauty to behold even in the most miserable of conditions, and I'm maintaining a childlike sense of wonder with all I encounter...🧡

I met a couple of people day hiking with their pup, Boomer, and they were all so excited to meet a thru-hiker that I was asked to take a picture with Boomer ☺️ - he looks psyched if you ask me, but not as much as I was 😅

But I made it down to and began walking down the road to the gas station...about a mile into it, I was fortunately offered a ride by a local guy named Steve...and now I've gotten what should be my final resupply for this journey, with the needed microspikes for the likely winter weather I will experience through the of the 🏔 - 47.1 official miles left 🙏

🚨 NEWS! (as promised 😌)🚨

On Monday, June 5th, I will be
hiking in the of as part of Summits in Solidarity’s Hike for Racial Justice Campaign. Through this campaign, I and other outdoor enthusiasts across the country are attempting to raise $35K by June 30th for critical programs that reduce socioeconomic barriers to the outdoors for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.

While this hike will be taken solo during my current thru-hike; anyone who views this hike on is welcome to donate. There is a minimum donation of $20 per "hiker" that goes towards the campaign, and your donation will count as your attendance as I summit Mount Lafayette for us all with a Summits in Solidarity bandana that shows our support for racial justice and outdoor access.

You can donate through June 24th‼️

📍This hike takes place on N’dakina (Abenaki / Abénaquis), Nanrantsouak, Wabanaki (Dawnland Confederacy) land. I acknowledge and honor with gratitude the land and waterways and the Indigenous people who have stewarded this land for generations.

So, apparently still has unresolved bugs...let's see if these pics come through 😩•See previous post 🙃

⏪: May 13, 2022

I was down at the outfitter, Mountain Crossings at Neel Gap in Georgia, and I made friends with some of the other hikers that were there. During that time, I was fortunate enough to meet this guy who offered me a ride up to the festival. I accepted on the condition that he'd get me back to where we were because I had the trail to get back to...and Trail Days was is in Damascus, Virginia, about 400 miles from where we were...

But we made it, and I was so excited to be there...Trail Town USA, and immersed in a swarm of people who either were hikers, affiliated with a company related to hiking, or those just interested in the show.

So much happened over the course of my weekend there...and I wish I could be there this weekend, but I'm up in ...and I'm seeing the finish line - which for me is right after I complete the section of , and descend down into Gorham, NH, which is where I left off when winter kicked up.

But while I'm here reflecting, I decided to share some of the people I met, and got a picture with (which unfortunately wasn't all), that have or had a significant impact on this journey, that I was thrilled to meet up with there...and a few others that otherwise continue to inspire me 🧡

I know this year is going to be just as much fun, wildness, and happiness...and I hope with much more diversity in areas other than just gear/food options...and I look forward to attending next year, perhaps with our own booth 🙃

⏪ February 17, 2018 - Life at this time had reached a point where I honestly was tired of it...so much so, that I wanted to leave it...

Even after everything life had already shown me: the good, the bad, and the ugly...and even after surviving reentry - for societal standards, that is - I was struggling to maintain a desire to want to continue playing this game of life...

But when I mentioned I was going off into the mountains, where I was introduced to a hike which brought me some semblance of peace, the man in this picture was the first to want to come with me. In fact, for years leading up to this day, he'd typically been the one who was there in a way that many couldn't be there for me...we formed a bond after meeting in prison, and I am grateful to continue to have him in my life...

was inspired by him, so this page technically wouldn't exist without his influence on my life...granted, there are many others who have brought us all here today, in this space...but on this day, had he not come and bring another one of our friends, I might not be typing this today...

Fast-forward to today, May 8, 2023, and I share this post in celebration of Kofi, on his , and may you receive as much as you have given...Salute my brother, and thank you...love you 🧡
